@JodiLuJohnson Saying childbirth was the leading cause of death for women throughout history leaves out how many deaths were tied to malnutrition, infection, poverty, and later iatrogenic medicine, not birth itself. That’s a very modern, fear-based framing of a physiologic process.

Women in many other countries, that have many children don’t grow up fearing it, and many of the daughters assist in the birth of their siblings, sometimes even young children see the birth, so they too see it as natural and not scary. I think the fear rhetoric has been utilized for decades as a means of population control etc. 🤷♀️ I’ve never forgotten what a nurse told me when I was in my early twenties & a few months pregnant with my firstborn- “don’t be fearful, you’re young and in great health. There’s women in third world countries that have given birth for hundreds of years without much or any professional medical help because they have to go to work even when they’re in imminent likelihood of giving birth in the fields they’re working in, and the women around her assist in the birth, and then they have to finish the rest of the day with the baby in a pouch (or what have you) and the majority of those women are just fine. You’ll be fine” 😳Oddly, I never feared birth after that. 🤣🤷♀️

@Tallowtwins Evolution is a tinkerer; not an engineer. Four-legged animals have an easier time giving birth, though hooved animals can and do die more than pawed. Humans have a poor structure that isn't bad enough to drive us to extinction, but is sub-optimal in design.

I didn’t get it either. I think it’s a combination of too much time watching narcissistic celebrities + knowing this is probably their last celebratory ceremony - most won’t marry or graduate from college.

Claude Mellan's Face of Christ, also known as The Sudarium of Saint Veronica (1649), is one of the most technically extraordinary works in art history... The entire portrait is rendered using a single, continuous spiralling line that begins at the tip of Christ's nose and expands outward to the edges of the cloth. Mellan achieved the illusion of depth, shadow, and facial features without any cross-hatching or traditional shading. Instead, he precisely varied the thickness and pressure of the burin (his engraving tool) as he rotated the copper plate, creating "swelling" lines that darken the image where needed. The spiralling line is estimated to be approximately 150m (about 500ft) long if it were stretched out.

Fun Fact about Mennonites
(especially the ones in Latin America)
The Mennonites in Bolivia arrived in the mid 20th century and by 2080 they will outnumber the native Bolivian population.
They’re German, Swiss, Dutch and used to be just a religious group but because they marry only Mennonites, they’ve become their own unique ethnicity and they BREED LIKE RABBITS. The Latin American Mennonites have 7-10 kids per family.
For them birthing children is a sense of vocational duty. They have more kids so there will be more farm workers.
They’ve been persecuted religiously in many different countries, and part of the reason they have so many children is because they have the mindset of earning their stay and freedom from religious persecution by being an objective net positive.
When you see Mennonites emigrate somewhere, it is almost always because they were *recruited* there. They never move unless it’s to escape religious persecution or find another Mennonite group with more genetic diversity to continue growing their population. They are not a nomadic people otherwise.
In the next 200-300 years, Central and South America will likely be majority white if this trend continues.

Atlanta just had a jazz festival. Tons of black people, no nonsense, no drama. It’s like this at EVERY Jazz festival all the time across the country. TWO THINGS: 1) When black people get together with no NGGAS and their trap/drill music; there’s peace. Love. Togetherness. A sense of safety. ITS THE MUSIC AND THE SUBCULTURE IT BRINGS, NOT RACE. 2) Ever notice racists NEVER see this? They somehow always seem to turn a blind eye to these huuuge concerts in major cities year round where nothing happens - but somehow always finds the worst of us to share online! Funny how that works!
