@TierZoo Continued: I would not suggest CPU encoding for this. It's also worth being familiar with the different encoding hardware that is in different GPU options; Nvidia's 70ti+ GPUs have an extra encoding unit, for example.

@TierZoo The client (viewer) decode is going to be pretty reasonable for most contemporary devices. The major issue you are going to run into is encoding. If gaming and streaming, you will likely need a second GPU or PC to have adequate encoding performance on GPU.

Streaming people: is it possible to stream a game in 4K60 without getting framedrops, or is that still beyond what most machines can handle?

@Belcross_ @TetoTetiroth It was the Master of Arms NPC, and in the final training, as well as the advanced guide, but they actually updated some of the text recently so it's a bit different than before.

"I'm the tank I set the pace" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. "You pull you tank" is GRIEFING. Plain and simple. Do your damn job. Idgaf if you're a tank main or not.

@Belcross_ I mean the same could be said about dps......do you dam job. No where does it ever say a dps is to run ahead and pull mobs. As a tank its hard to know if you have everything in the group if you dont pull initially. Its not griefing, it legit makes it harder to account for

@KanikouEstellia @BlueMightyDuck It is more ideal for a melee or prange to pull because they can provide damage reduction (additional arm's length) while doing damage sooner, and also improving mob grouping. With attention, you can also properly sprint chain. A clear can be up to 40% faster and much safer.

@BlueMightyDuck Legit question: Why is it so hard to just, let the tank pull? Like, what damage is it causing to not let them do their job? It's only in FFXIV where consequences "shouldn't" be punished.

Maybe do not announce your intention of letting someone die intentionally while also /sit in front of a Trashpull that aggro's without being attacked. You Pull You Tank is a disease.

@bardozVAL @Blakeandmild The real answer to this question is that more counts/360 = less error, it's basic math. Though a lot of mouse sensors do interpolation nonsense or software scaling to support high and unusual CPI numbers; so you're typically at the mercy of your hardware anyway.

@mickysux_xiv This can obviously work out if you're not completely in the right spot, it's not exactly precise, but multiple people being out of position like that change the safe spots.

@mickysux_xiv In the clip the player aligned with the middle instead of the western corner of the marker. Both the tether player and the player at the marker need to be aligned on the West/East axis to the correct corner for this strategy to work as intended.

not sure if the kindred braindead strat for flatliner has wrong markers or what but going to the corner of the marker has made my group lose a lot of pulls and we changed to using the middle of the markers instead and quite literally did it in one try twitch.tv/mickysux325/cl…

I don't think enough people realize that Valve literally just took the most common Steam Hardware survey results and made a console out of it. That's literally all the Steam Machine is

not lextorias@lextorias

@sharpedges756 Valve posts the data themselves. only ~30% of Steam users have more than 8GB VRAM, and the amount who actually need 4k60 is less than 5% if it’s competitive on costs (which it seems like it is) it’s a console that can play basically every game ever made store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam…

@DrahsidDev @absolute_malex @HardwareUnboxed it sticks up enough warnings when you're about to do something dumb. I'm fine with being treated like an actual adult. IF I get warned two/three times and still do something that's on me. The average user can still read. There is also a refund program.

We've certainly upset a few people (and are being called "elitist") for saying that the Steam Machine's GPU is "slow and below entry-level" Except it is. The RX 7600 was an entry-level GPU released 2.5 years ago, and the Machine's spec is lower than that. It's possibly a bit faster than the entry-level RX 6600 from four years ago It's not elitist to describe that type of performance as below entry-level (relative to other PCs) for a brand new system being released in 2026
Hardware Unboxed@HardwareUnboxed

Our latest podcast discusses the Steam Machine, which based on what we've seen so far, needs to be PS5-level cheap (or cheaper) youtube.com/watch?v=DYwldD…

@eaglemmoomin @absolute_malex @HardwareUnboxed Also, I think the point on deck verified is moot. On console storefronts, you can't buy a game that does not/partially works. This issue is currently significantly lower when on Windows. For the average user, this is surely a massive downside, especially for MP.

@eaglemmoomin @absolute_malex @HardwareUnboxed Also, most developers do not check or test on Proton. This means that functionality is happenstance. Many games get specific fixes, but most end up with varying compatibility. Of course a ton of work has gone into it, the issue persists. Check PDB is lame for the layman.

@eaglemmoomin @absolute_malex @HardwareUnboxed Valve specifically noted that this will be priced like a PC, which leads me to believe it will be higher, and relatively less valuable. I hope I am wrong. Our titles work on SteamOS. How is this irony? It's not particularly related to what I said.

@eaglemmoomin @HardwareUnboxed @absolute_malex Every title on the eshop works on their platform. Every mp game has functioning mp, assuming service is active. This cannot be said for the steam machine. Most games working in the first place is happenstance. Who's this for? Not vets. Not newbs. Not value focused. Not longevity

@Jamie8370353875 @KitsuneFuzzy @hebi_rokku @lextorias Why would a person enter the ecosystem with a device that can't play every game on the storefront and can't play most popular multiplayer games? For a living room PC I don't see how this competes with mini-PCs. If Valve thought this, they wouldn't say it will have 'PC pricing'

@KitsuneFuzzy @hebi_rokku @lextorias People who have a mid-range PC (or better) are not the target audience for this device. This is targeted at people who aren't PC gamers but might be interested in the ecosystem, or people who have a PC but want a secondary system for their living room.

@ApplePadCo What I wrote applies to all pads and skates up to the point that your mouse itself distorts laterally. Plus, the additional force to overcome the force of pressing persists regardless of softness I'm not aware of standard way to measure this besides checking softness of materials

@DrahsidDev I should’ve stated that this was aimed at hard pads. My bad. This is true to a degree but how does one calculate what the mousepad is doing for stoping power and not the user, since everyone applies different amounts of pressure. There is no measurement for the pad itself

To every glass user and company. This question has been weighing on my mind for a while. What exactly is STOPPING POWER? It’s a very loose term thrown around here and there. It’s said to be in effect when “pressing down” on the mousepad. 1/2

@ApplePadCo One final thing is that by physically pressing down, you also increase the required force to move the mouse laterally (ignoring surface area,) because your movements have to also overcome the force going into the pad.

@ApplePadCo Though for an instant stop you can also just lift the mouse, at the cost of incurring additional tracking time.
