
An important article reinforcing the importance of the misunderstood and inappropriately maligned Broken Windows philosophy. In my lectures, I often cite the relationship between medicine and policing in that both professions are authorized to use ‘force’ including ‘deadly force,’ but to always do it appropriately using the least amount of force (or medicine). You don't want a police officer using excessive force and you don't want a doctor using excessive amounts of medicine inappropriately (too much chemo or radiation for example). Both professions/practices need to be committed to the principle, “do no harm,” while attempting to treat people or correct behavior while trying to prevent the growth of the identified illness or disorder. city-journal.org/article/broken…
