I was deeply saddened to learn from his son Brian of the passing of my good friend and professional colleague, the legendary Charlie Connolly — truly a “Cop’s Cop. Over the last 32 years, I had the privilege of knowing and working alongside Charlie, whose leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to policing earned him the respect of everyone he encountered. He represented the very best of the profession and leaves behind a legacy of service, mentorship, and friendship that will not be forgotten. Thank you for posting this link Bill. Largely due to your introduction, I had the honor of working closely with George Kelling. People cannot discount the importance of his work. Anthony Braga and I were just discussing this article. We need more police/public health collaborations to improve public safety. The strategies work!

An important article reinforcing the importance of the misunderstood and inappropriately maligned Broken Windows philosophy. In my lectures, I often cite the relationship between medicine and policing in that both professions are authorized to use ‘force’ including ‘deadly force,’ but to always do it appropriately using the least amount of force (or medicine). You don't want a police officer using excessive force and you don't want a doctor using excessive amounts of medicine inappropriately (too much chemo or radiation for example). Both professions/practices need to be committed to the principle, “do no harm,” while attempting to treat people or correct behavior while trying to prevent the growth of the identified illness or disorder. city-journal.org/article/broken…

Congratulations to @NYCSanitation Jessica Tisch. Mayor Adams made an excellent appointment to the position of Police Commissioner at the NYPD. Jessica has always been a consummate professional. She understands policing from the inside and the outside. This is excellent news for the citizens of New York City.
