@briandefelice_ I think that’s a good guess as the season finale vs NJ should be less intense than a pre-season game. And it may be a good chance to let Hagens get his feet wet without much pressure (and also to assess his defensive awareness).

@BruinsBenders If I had to wager a guess, i think the thought is that there’s value in him watching a game from the 9th floor for as much institutional knowledge before doing it at ice level. At the latest he should play season finale against NJD

Question. If he’s not ready tomorrow, how is he ready Sunday with no practice in between? Tuesday? With one more practice. But they’ve been cancelling those. Playoffs with more intensity against possibly the team you are avoiding tomorrow? I’m just trying to make sense of it
Brian DeFelice@briandefelice_

Official now but this seemed evident the second practice started when he was in a Merlot “5th line” jersey. But make no mistake - he WILL get his opportunity soon after Saturday. They didn’t burn the 1st year of his ELC and forgo games in PRV to not play him at all.

@TCalauttis He hadn’t earned the promotion and isn’t ready to play against TB. Columbus is less clear but also seems doubtful since it’s the next day. But I’d bet he at least plays in the no-hitter, pre-season-like finale against NJ and then they assess things for the playoffs from there.

I’m a little surprised by this. I figured with only three games left you’d want Hagens to play as much as possible before the postseason. That being said Tampa is a tough place to play even for a seasoned pro so maybe they want to ‘ease’ him in against Columbus before the playoffs? Either way it’s an interesting development #NHLBruins

Sturm: Hagens will not play tomorrow vs. Tampa. “He just needs time, get used to our system. … He’s on the right track.”

@joeyferg Panthers would rather the Leafs get a Top 5 pick than Bruins get 6-8 pick. So when they on Saturday look for Panthers to push to win that game to help Leafa move down. Panthers don’t want that pick going to Boston.

Leafs are currently battling it out with the Panthers in a tankathon to determine if they give their first round pick to the Bruins or not. How tf do we escape these teams.

@parker1313 @ProducerDrew_ There schedule is not balanced. So why should teams in the West be rewarded for inflating their point totals by playing a softer schedule?

@ProducerDrew_ Tell us AGAIN this is great for the NHL?? Work hard all season long, be a top 8 team and STILL don't get rewarded being home ice in 1st round. Top 8 teams should have at least home ice 1st round

If the Stanley Cup Playoffs started today the 3rd best team in the NHL would host the 7th and 5th best would host the 6th.

@tnutsghesun @MaggioreKevin Toronto finishes with Florida on Saturday Dallas on Monday and at Ottawa on Wednesday. All are winnable games for the Leafs as Dallas and Ottawa will likely be dressing AHL rosters.

@MaggioreKevin As long as Toronto doesn’t drop to the bottom 5 their chances of a top 3 is only about 16% and 0 chance at 4th or 5th. Need Florida and/or Seattle to keep losing.

@Bleue35 @SportsTalkWPG @hustlerama @mikemcintyrewpg Three points for a win fixes a lot more the people think. Why? Because there is much less incentive to have a listless 3rd period where both teams play for a regulation tie. That it won’t change the standings much is irrelevant.

Last year the Boston Bruins sold off Brad Marchand and Brandon Carlo and had lost Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci to retirement. They traded Marchand for a conditional 2nd round pick. If the Florida Panthers won at least 2 rounds and Marchand played in at least 50% of those games, the Bruins would get the Panthers 2027 1st rounder or 2028. However, because the Panthers are likely to pick in the top 10, the pick will slide to 2028 but UNPROTECTED. Meanwhile, they got their 3C in Fraser Minten and a 1st rounder from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Brandon Carlo. If the Leafs pick in the top 5, the Bruins likely get their UNPROTECTED 2028 pick. To top it off, they snagged James Hagens 7th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft and have 5 first round picks over the next 3 drafts. The window with Swayman, Pastrnak, and McAvoy is NOT closed. #NHLBruins

@BruinsNetwork It’s the wrong way of handling Hagens. It’s rewarding underwhelming performances with a promotion. It’s the kind of entitled garbage the younger generation has come to expect without the bother of being required to actually earn the promotion first.

Hagens is their best prospect since Seguin— this is the correct way of handling him. He has high-end vision, talent, playmaking and skating that can help Boston right now. Both the third-line and roster depth dried up weeks ago. Let him get some real NHL experience. #NHLBruins

@BruinsBenders Saying this year is a good opportunity to see where he’s at is you thinking you know what’s best for him. There was no reason to rush him to the NHL before he’d earned a promotion.

@Jessemedscience Unfortunately Dons a loser and he isn’t going to be called up. The year being “burned” of his ELC is so overrated, he’s just going to want out in a few years because of how this is going. #sweenius

@BruinsNetwork The last game of the year against NJ should be similar to a pre-season no-hitter - and completely meaningless. And TB just played a weak lineup against Ottawa. So at best that leaves the Columbus game and maybe a few playoff games.

Providence has been a 40-win team four years running now— made it out of round one once and lost in round two. They’re not guaranteed to do any better than Boston. Handful of NHL games followed by playoffs at the highest level is more valuable than the same in the AHL. #NHLBruins
Ed Rae@EdRae11

@BruinsNetwork What’s lost in the discussion is the Bruins are going nowhere in the playoffs this year. So the only question that matters is what’s best for the kid and the Bruins long-term.
