@MagisterIR @DavWarren3 No. Really? Like a politician lying? For real?
English

@DavWarren3 Lying on a regular basis to the American public is far more unpatriotic.

I don't care how much you dislike the President...
Booing during the National Anthem of an American Sporting Event is about as unpatriotic as it gets.

Last night I watched this movie for the first time. So damn good. I hated that it ended, I wished it was twice as long. Everyone remembers Alec Baldwin's Always Be Closing speech but it's not even a top 3 performance in this cast... everybody acted their asses off. I saw Back Rooms earlier this week and pretty much just thought about myself the entire time, because there were no characters and no plot and nobody gave a shit and so it wasn't immersive at all. I worried it was me, maybe I'm just too much of a jaded narcissist to enjoy movies now. Nope. The cast of Glengarry Glen Ross, and Al Pacino specifically, have restored my faith in the medium.

@codyclarke Even if it were paying for part of a lottery, these parties have essentially "sold it back" by taking their contracted payment.

The amount of money a movie makes has nothing to do with your work on it as a grunt (yes, on a project this small, the ‘art director’ was a glorified grunt)

@wil_da_beast630 Add second order effects and I believe the inability to comprehend those things should be considered criteria for splitting classifications of human.

Again: three things decently smart laypeople really struggle with are per capita, selection bias, and relative base rates.
So, not counting abusive gfs, I have been in at least 20 physical fights with humans/human males. But, I would rather ride in an elevator with a human male than a grizzly bear.
This is because, had I had the same (2,000,000,000) encounters with grizzlies that I have with human males, far more than 20 of them would have been violent.

Once my mom and stepdad got scammed by a guy who knocked on the door and offered to fix the dents in their cars outside. He pretended to work on the cars, took the money, and then fled. My stepdad said the weird part was that the man did most of the correct steps to fix the dents, and obviously knew how it worked, but just decided not to finish it.
That's when I first saw a glimpse into the spirit of a scammer. It's not laziness or incompetence that drives them. Oftentimes the scammer works harder at scamming than they would at an honest job. What drives them is the incessant need to be better than everyone else to "get one over on" others. It's a truly perverse and awful way to live.

I don’t understand why they couldn’t just give every cast and crew member like… 5% of the revenue

‘OBSESSION’ is now eyeing a $300–330M worldwide finish. That would be more than 400x its reported $750K production budget – one of the biggest box office multipliers in film history.

@RealTexasRick @RockChartrand What, you don't ever just food?
English

About 25 years ago I thought about the definition of "right", and I came up with one. Not to imagine that I am the final authority on such things, I checked at least 3 online dictionaries. They were all pretty much the same, and one was word-for-word identical to mine:
A right is a thing that one may do without first obtaining permission from another.
IOW, rights are verbs, not nouns. Food is a noun.
English

Food isn't a right.
The ability to acquire food is.
The moment food itself becomes a right, someone else becomes obligated to produce it, transport it, pay for it, or surrender it.
Civilization wasn't built so people could live off one another. It was built so people could cooperate through trade and produce enough that starvation became increasingly rare.
The systems most obsessed with declaring food a right are the ones with the worst record of causing famines.
