@RyanMaue Growing up in the mid-west, tornado watches and warnings were always announced with Doppler radar data. How does missing weather balloon data impact weather forecasters' ability to detect tornado-prone weather conditions?

Former NOAA meteorologists: NWS Storm Prediction Center completely missed Monday's tornado threat in Kansas City because of "missing weather balloon" data upstream. More "surprise tornadoes" likely as SPC forecasters are left in the dark about severe weather threats.
NBC News@NBCNews

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center did not anticipate a tornado threat for the Kansas City area, prompting concerns among some that ongoing changes to staffing and weather balloon releases at the NWS might be leaving forecasters in the dark about threats. nbcnews.com/weather/tornad…

The prices for tomorrow night at Sphere for Phish are wild. These were $250 in the regular sale and I was thrilled to get some for Friday night. What happened? Bots and scalpers bought a ton of tickets & held out for high prices. Folks didnt want to spend that much plus the high cost of Vegas rooms on a popular weekend. Now tickets are cheap, but you would need to book a last minute flight and still pay a bunch for a room.

There's no double standard. Reporters can't sleep with people they write about because they need to be trusted by their organizations to be impartial. Coaches owe no responsibility to their teams to not sleep with reporters. (I have no idea if Russini and Vrabel were involved.)

A neurosurgeon who calls herself a “brain doctor” and wears a disguise because she’s so embarrassed by the fifth grade reading level pablum she churns out for adults incapable of reading fiction in the third person is a far more interesting plot than any of her books.
Variety@Variety

“The Housemaid” author Freida McFadden has unveiled her true identity. She said her real name is Sara Cohen, and she works as a brain doctor when not writing books: “I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret. I’m tired of people debating if I’m a real person or if I’m three men. I am a real person and I have a real identity and I don’t have anything to hide.” variety.com/2026/film/news…

@LordofAds Did you actually read his tweet? He admits what he did was wrong, that it shouldn't have happened and has made a commitment to be better in future. He went viral for the "wrong" reason - that being that he did something stupid and wrong. This tweet ain't it, my friend

No, you did not go viral for the "wrong" reason. You went viral because it perfectly represents how employees are forced to reply during PTO or risk getting fired in 2026. And you were a clear Stuart of that culture. Nicely done turning off replies on this post as well...

My only take on the Vrabel-Russini thing is (after consulting with my girlfriend, who used to be a divorce lawyer) is I’d bet any amount of money that the pictures were captured by a PI not some random hotel guest or a paparazzi

Remarkable thermal drone footage from Floodlight showing xAI using "unpermitted gas turbines to power... Grok" in predominantly Black neighborhoods in Mississippi. They quote Bruce Buckheit, a former EPA official, “That is a violation of the law.”

@r14landry @Seth_3773 The first thing you want to judge a ball on as an outfielder is sound, which takes a quarter of a second to travel 300 feet? Gotcha.

@Seth_3773 I see this is rec softball and it drives me nuts. I’ve wa always taught the first thing you have to judge a ball on is the sound. A tennis racket does nothing to teach that to men or boys or girls when shagging balls. That’s just terrible

Apparently, Nats coaches are now using tennis rackets instead of fungos to hit fly balls to their outfielders. This is really the point in baseball, where you’ve gotta sit there and go holy crap. We need more baseball people and less nerds teaching this game.
