Looks to be a necessary correction on the reputation of Robert E. Lee, and also a challenge to the anachronistic notion that Confederates were "traitors." Jefferson Davis was never tried partly because people thought he would be acquitted.

Thinking out loud here…. I was always told that for the US to lose hegemonic status it would need to lose a kinetic conflict against a peer competitor. And it had none so that was it. Maybe China. But wut about losing a bluff to a middle power??
