I fear patrilineal naming has done a grave disservice here ... people know he's a KENNEDY, right?!

I’m a sucker for a “moment of clarity” closeup and this one of Saxon might be one of the best of this season of The White Lotus. Great work from Patrick Schwarzenegger here.

@JasonJDaniel @NateSilver538 Something tells me you had a much higher opinion of Nate when he was projecting a Trump win two weeks ago.
English

@NateSilver538 😂😂😂😂😂😂 she’s losing ground you know it. It makes me wonder why do you and ABC want her to win so bad? It really boggles the mind how brainwashed you guys are. Just stick anybody in that slot and you worship the ground they walk on.

@jdry double feature is borderline cheating, but i'll allow it. good on Cecilia.
English

@SamMorrill Impressive! That almost beats my double feature of Alan Cumming's Cabaret and Bebe Neuwirth's Chicago.

It's hard to overstate the importance of Jaron Lanier in Silicon Valley. He even coined the term "virtual reality".
Today, he's a leading naysayer of A.I. Is it hype?
I tried to understand him. Things got prickly.

@zkoller @BrianLehrer @NickKristof @USATODAY @enckj @iMayaBerry Alternatively, it would be like Sean Hannity referring to Brian as a communist. It’s just a lazy mischaracterization completely detached from where most people are politically.
English

@SamMorrill @BrianLehrer @NickKristof @USATODAY @enckj @iMayaBerry I also raised my eyebrows when I heard him say that. It’s like saying @BrianLehrer is conservative because he hasn’t completely abandoned Israel.
English

On today's show:
- @NickKristof has harsh words for Pres. Biden
- @USATODAY reporter Claire Thornton on divestment
- @enckj wraps up the #PlasticChallenge
- @iMayaBerry on Arab-American immigration

This is an ignorant take on me, based on my career (of which I'm proud) 15 years ago. I am "allied" with none of these people and anyone who thinks otherwise is recreationally blind to reality. Have fun.
Adrian Lesher@AdrianLesher
@JohnHMcWhorter You deny you are "very conservative." But you ally yourself with racists like Christopher Rufo, hackish and dishonest operative Bill Barr, vandal against public education Betsy DeVos, disingenous rightist commentators Heather McDonald etc. through the Manhattan Institue.
English

@SamMorrill @mfc248 Ohh I see what you’re saying. He had to add the dollar to make sure he beat Yogesh. It was just an extreme coincidence to be a dollar less. So you’re saying he could have instead done a flat 7,600 which would have resulted in a tie
English

@Beau_Braun07 @mfc248 He had to protect himself from Yogesh potentially doubling, but due to some weird math, Ben squeaked out the win.
English

@mfc248 @SamMorrill But wouldn’t you want to leave enough money to be at least a dollar more than the guy who can double, just to make sure?
English

@SamMorrill @MyPleesure It's also just the sports analogy of just hanging around all game despite your opponents' best shots and then scoring the buzzer beater -- twice in four games.
English

Oh my God, I am seriously impressed with how one of the contestants in Tournament of Champions has swiped two wins and now leads in the race to be the first to win three games. #Jeopardy #JeopardyToC
English

@mfc248 @Beau_Braun07 Yup. Troy's wager was correct. He could've wagered a dollar less, but that would've forced a tiebreaker with either Yogesh or Ben.
If it were me, I'd rather play to win outright.
English

@Beau_Braun07 Who did? Here was Troy's math; tell me what you come up with…
20,400 × 2 = X
(X + 1) - 33,200 = ???
English

@MyPleesure @BryanUF Troy's wager was correct ($7601). That would've put him $1 ahead of Yogesh had Yogesh doubled his money. It's actually a really unfortunate coincidence for Troy.
English

@BryanUF That's because the guy in the middle can not add or subtract. He should have bet 2 less. So instead of winning by a dollar he lost by one dollar. He knew that the 3rd place guy was going to double, it was the only chance he had to win, he was far behind. So embarrassing

@BrianLehrer @mckaycoppins @NYHammond @CSSNYorg @rondakaysen @anya1anya @WNYC Thinking of Trump as a pseudo-incumbent, the margin in NH is striking. If Biden had a challenger getting 45% of the vote, it would be a huge story.

@BrianLehrer @AaronBlake @JordynJournals @nick_garber @Kevin_Feeney_ @WNYC We were all rightfully disturbed by the way the previous administration flaunted norms. The senate dress code is a much lower bar to clear. If Fetterman dressed this way to a wedding, he’d be unseemly. How are the halls of Congress any less hallowed?
