If you'd said 2 years ago that Trump would have an approval rating in the 30s, and Republicans would still be falling over themselves to put his name on stuff, you'd have been thrown in an asylum. And yet, here we are.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Bessent finds a workaround to get Trump on currency: "There cannot be an image of a living person, but we have the president's signature [on bills], which I think is appropriate for the 250th ... we can put living people's images on a coin. The president is also going to have a coin coming out with his image on it"

Trump’s lie that he publicly warned against the 2003 invasion of Iraq was debunked a full decade ago. He didn’t say “don’t go into Iraq.” Asked six months before the invasion if he supported the idea, he said, “Yeah, I guess so. I wish the first time it was done correctly.” In early 2003, he said Bush “has either got to do something or not do something, perhaps.” He started expressing some criticism soon after the invasion and became an explicit opponent of the war in 2004, a year after the invasion. That’s certainly earlier than many other public figures, but it’s not the ignored pre-war warning he regularly describes.

Trump: I used to say, don't go into Iraq, don't attack Iraq. Frankly, they attacked the wrong country. And they did a lot of damage.

JUST IN: Inflation cooled more than expected in June. US inflation was 3.5% (y/y) in June, down from 4.2% in May. This was the biggest one-month decline since April 2020 (!) Falling gas prices in were the biggest factor. “Core inflation” (excluding food and gas/energy) eased to 2.6% in June, down from 2.9% in May. The renewed war in Iran will almost certainly push inflation back up. Relief could be short-lived. But this should give the Federal Reserve some time to see wait and see for awhile.

A week after the Iran war started, 60% of Americans expected the war to last "an extended period of time," per @Reuters-@Ipsos polling. That's now up to 79%.

Trump now says the "slashes" in the reflecting pool floor "were 300 yards long." That's 3.6 times as big as his initial claim of 250 feet. The good news is, with the pool now being drained, they can show us precisely where this is. CNN has been unable to locate it so far.

Folarin Balogun to @CBSMornings on the red card being overturned after the call from Trump: "I was happy to be back in the team. But when I kind of started to reflect, I knew it was going to cause a lot of controversy. And I could almost see in my teammates a bit of nerves.”

Many senators see no more fitting tribute to their late colleague Lindsey Graham than passing his bipartisan Russia sanctions bill as soon as possible But “slam dunks are getting tougher in the United States Senate,” said Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont. -Senators want Trump to forcefully back it, not just a statement from aides -Rand Paul will fight it, meaning it will eat floor time -Competing with other priorities

Very interesting situation for Blanche at Wednesday's confirmation hearing. Remember how DOJ tried to silence Jack Smith from even mentioning his report based on Judge Cannon's order? Well, Williams has ordered parties that they can't refer to the bogus unconstitutional "settlement agreement." Does that mean Blanche is so muzzled Wed?
