I stopped drinking nearly 2 years ago.
I believe now more than I did then that there are no established benefits to drinking.
But the negatives are verifiable and backed by extensive research.
The “positives” are social only
I’ve personally experienced no social downsides.
I don’t care if other people drink, and I don’t ask people not to drink around me, and it’s usually not weird for them when I don’t.
The stigma around not drinking is virtually gone.
Everywhere has an NA option now, and they’re usually pretty good.
I started by giving it up for 90 days. It was a personal health challenge to myself, that’s it.
After 90 days I realized I didn’t miss it so I decided to go a year.
After a year it was just part of my life so I kept going.
Morale to the story: do whatever you want.
