@TheCornDog @nate_ozzie i am (and have been for at least two years) convinced study committee fatigue was always overture fatigue with some concealing makeup.

That while, under the conviction of the above principle, we think it necessary to make effectual provision that all who are admitted as teachers be sound in the faith, we also believe that *there are truths and forms with respect to which men of good characters and principles may differ.* And in all these we think it the duty both of private Christians and societies to exercise mutual forbearance towards each other.—Preliminary Principle 5, PCA BCO

Bumping this: though the particulars have changed, the larger point remains the same. Unless we are going to become a strict subscription denomination with no allowable differences, then some sort of theological triage must be practiced. Which means the tent has to be bigger. open.substack.com/pub/a4mr/p/the…

We honor the life of John Perkins (1930-2026), who passed earlier today. Read more about his life, and the ways that God used him as a civil rights advocate and Christian leader, in this profile from 2018. thegospelcoalition.org/article/final-…

"We notice that PCA permits a certain flexibility in acceptance of its doctrinal standards. If a teaching elder or ruling elder finds himself at variance with any provision in our doctrinal standards, he makes that variance known to his presbytery/session. This Court then decides whether such variance is allowable or not. We believe that a similar kind of flexibility should also apply to our PCA polity and give greater flexibility to the local church. To this end, we would like to revise the BCO to remove many of the restrictive details of polity and let the BCO state broad principles. This would allow each court the flexibility to develop its own procedure within these BCO principles. We would propose the similar kind of flexibility in polity as we now have for doctrine, with similar safeguards." From the 13th #pcaga, Report of the Ad-Interim Committee to Study and Make Recommendations as to Structure and Procedure (p. 319). The committee was chaired by Jack Williamson and included Frank Barker, Will Barker, Robert Cannada, Richard Chewning, David Coffin, Bruce Ferg, Paul Gilchrist, George Knight, and Paul Settle with Jim Baird and Morton Smith as advisors.

Very disappointed to not have been invited to the recent AMR gathering. What are these men thinking? Do they not want my fashion advice?

Bradley Longfield’s The Presbyterian Controversy makes the point that both fundamentalists and modernists wanted a “Christian” America (though of course differed in their visions), which has stuck with me.
Sean Lucas@SeanMLucas

If you buy @reallyoldlife's argument in Lost Soul of American Protestantism (and I very much do), then one could suggest that Christian Nationalism is simply another form of conservative activism that is not that much different than other more liberal versions of activism (like the Social Gospel). It is still about the Kingdom of God in America in the end.

@schweissing Apparently the ARPs does specify that it shall be done reverently. You learn something new every day on this site!

Reasons to avoid a binding DPW in the PCA: We don't have to have the SJC schedule overflowing because of complaints by 19 year old twerps that someone disposed of our leftover Communion bread in a manner deemed insufficiently reverent.

@sassiterian Well, since we know the laying on of hands always denotes ordination, this is, at best, confusing… 😉

One of the dumbest attacks on Keller is the fact that his book on marriage isn't also a parenting manual. Is his work perfect? No. Did he talk about parenting elsewhere? Yes.

Finally made it to the meeting of the Pacific Northwest Presbytery and walked in to Dr. Rayburn referencing a scripture passage about incest, so that's probably the most interesting presbytery meeting entrance I've experienced.

was asked to guest preach last minute at church with a solo pastor. happy to spend the time preparing over God’s word, but as they are a weekly communion church i’m unable to help in that area. i am curious what #pcaga people think about allowing the OCCASIONAL ability for REs to administer the Lord’s Supper? (this would be similar to how REs, or others, aren’t supposed to regularly preach.)

@ThomasERickard @Jacob_A_Webb As a graduate of Covenant Seminary, I think the seminary would hold the same view. But I’d like to point out that Covenant College and Covenant Seminary, while both PCA, are separate institutions. (No comment on communion- more info might help.)

Am I the only one who finds it strange they served the Lord’s Supper at a chapel service?
Covenant Seminary@CovSeminary

Yesterday in our annual Advent chapel service, Dr. @robbiegriggs rounded out our semester series on the pastoral epistles with a sermon on Titus 1:1–4, "Heralds of Eternal Life." We also partook of the Lord's Table together in celebration of Christ's first coming as we look forward to his second. Finally, we welcomed special musical guests to lead us in song, including Matt Mazzoni, Director of Music at @CPCStL, and a brass quintet from Webster Groves High School.

In college, I interned at a church pastored by a man who hosted a weekly community group in his home. It wasn’t a traditional Bible study. Each week, he shared what he called “A Beauty of Jesus”—a short, scriptural meditation on some aspect of Christ’s person and work. What struck me about these meditations was how they captivated a room filled with people from every walk of life. The church was in downtown East County, San Diego, and served as a refuge for both our homeless neighbors and white-collar professionals. Though the people gathered around the beauty of Jesus came from very different worlds, they were united in gazing at him together. Much of my pastoral ministry since then has been an attempt to help people behold that same beauty of Christ. I’m excited about this project, and I’d be grateful for your prayers!

Bo Nix has a character trait that really can’t be taught. His ability to forget and move on is uncanny. On one play he misses a WIDE OPEN Engram for what could have been a walk-in TD. Very next play, a dime to Sutton. Short memory. Goldfish. Serves him well.
