@warne I use the same three point sermon problem, solution, why it matters/ how to use it. Never gets old.

Also, if the MLB is going to simultaneously get in bed w Polymarket AND keep Pete Rose out of the hall, they deserve whatever bad thing happens to them when this blows up in their face.

There’s a need for good churches everywhere so I’m thrilled for this brother! But I would love to offer up Utah for future church planters. My city has almost 40,000 people in it and only 3 broadly evangelical churches. The ratio is about 1/13,000 and that’s a normal city here

All, I'm thrilled to share that in May, I'll start leading a new church in East Austin. Currently, there is 1 church for every 850-900 people in Austin. But the # of churches is decreasing, and the non-Xian pop is growing, making Aus a strategic mission field for church planting.

@JonMcK1647 Have this convo once a month it feels like... Creedo has one that's good. Best way to argue is for the outdated language of the KJV. It's not common english anymore and therefore its not useful for building up the church.

Follow and read about this new work below. Our family has been discerning planting a church since 2017. God has opened the door for the gospel and a new church in our time, serving in Austin. We're committed to this city and seeing gospel renewal here: theaustinproject.substack.com/p/the-austin-p…

@brheiny One of my professors in College, an LCMS minister BTW, would talk about the homogeneity of Sunday mornings and say, "Is the Holy Spirit racist?" He deeply lamented these statistics. And, he often blamed liturgical snobbery as the culprit. He was no liberal either.

PCA likely would be top five if we recorded this statistic. We are in line with the top five denoms listed here in nearly every demographic we do record. Nobody wants to admit it, but the PCA and PCUSA are basically attracting the same people.

I was working nights while in grad school. End of semester. One last paper to finish. Plan was to get home from work at 3am, pull all-nighter, and submit paper by the noon deadline. Wife found me asleep on laptop. Woke up. Drank coffee. Wrote paper in 4 hrs. A+. Peak experience.

Kids will never feel the gameday pressure of having to start an essay at 2am and finish it by 8am before the deadline. Totally lost. Absolutely no evolutionary pressure towards a clutch factor anymore.

OK, I’ll bite: Saying that pastors need a sabbatical because their work is uniquely challenging is like saying OT Israel needed sabbath because their life was uniquely difficult. You’re missing the point. Sabbaths and sabbaticals are not rewards. They are not an escape for the exhausted. They are signposts of creation and salvation. They are means of beyond ourselves to the God who created, sustains, and redeems all things. Churches give their pastors sabbaticals as a sign to the world of what it looks like to work from a place of rest, free from the slavery to production and performance. For what it’s worth, I don’t think pastors have it rougher than teachers or entrepreneurs or stay at home parents. And the mental health of CEOs and business owners is far worse than that of pastors. That is why some in the business world are practicing radical rest and recreation. In other words, they’re catching on to the wisdom of God even while some theobros eschew it.
