I have thought about the whole Michigan Senate thing a lot. and as someone who has lost a child and is Brown, I really think the anger at McMorrow is the deep seated rage a lot of Brown folks feel about watching kids that look like our children get blown up in Gaza and Iran while women like McMorrow only bothered to care about that loss of life once the polls started to change. And it’s wild that she and her camp don’t seem to recognize that even while they try and get mad at Brown people for still being bitter about Gaza as she talks out of both sides of her mouth while submitting AIPAC position papers.

The Department of Justice announced a civil rights investigation into the University of Washington purportedly because an unrecognized student group — a group whose access to campus UW “permanently revoked” last year based on conduct violations — planned an off-campus bake sale to benefit “Lebanese resistance.”
Holding UW responsible for the actions of an off-campus group would stretch federal civil rights law far past its lawful bounds. The federal government is not empowered to demand universities serve as roving monitors of private off-campus expression, and it recognized as much in its 2020 Title IX regulations.
The Supreme Court likewise made clear that institutional responsibility relies on control over the actors and the setting. UW has no such control over an off-campus bake sale.
Unless there are other allegations, this investigation should end.

The Michigan Democratic Party just nominated a candidate to be a University of Michigan Regent who has publicly praised Hezbollah terrorists as “martyrs” and called Israelis “demons” who “lie, cheat, murder and blackmail.”
At a university with a large and vibrant Jewish student population, this is a disgrace that puts Jewish students at risk.
