Niko Kovač advised Bayern against signing one of his own Dortmund players last year How? Last summer, after Bayern failed to sign priority target Nico Williams, they turned to alternatives. One of them was Dortmund's Jamie Gittens. The supervisory board, including Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, was skeptical about the player. A club employee was tasked with contacting Niko Kovač to get an honest opinion from him about Gittens. Kovač is said to have made it more than clear that he considers the Englishman "not professional enough" to succeed at FC Bayern. The club then abandoned the pursuit of Gittens and went all in on Luis Díaz. Gittens ended up joining Chelsea [@BILD, Bayern Insider]

There was nothing about Gittens that required a £60m bid. He wasn't in demand, didn't have a good season, had training issues and didn't even play well for England U-21s.
He did have one thing though - his agent is incredibly close to Joe Shields. We're talking family-level.

Nothing sums up the failure of Chelsea's "structure" more than Gittens being at the club.
Dortmund put a price-tag of £35m for him, we ended up paying £60m. He's hopelessly out of his depth, to make things worse.
He's here solely to make Joe Shields' friends and family rich.

One thing i can agree on is we definitely destroyed the Prem midfield market. 60m on relegated Lavia. 115m on Caicedo when we could've easily gotten him for less and 106 for enzo
