'The Commission does not regard it as appropriate to use its power to grant temporary exemptions to certify, potentially on a continuing basis, that unjustifiable hardship exists.' Don't underestimate how powerful this statement is. We welcome this firm line in the sand.

This confirms what we already knew. The airline industry has lost control of their own service delivery model and must be reigned back in. We need a true regulatory mechanism that can act to ensure no one else suffers like this. #auspol #DisabilityRights news.com.au/travel/travel-…

A number of us including our chair, demanded a full inquiry into roles & responsibilities of airlines and airports given the patently unwilling attitudes of airlines like @JetstarAirways to change at the recent Aviation Access Forum. This must happen now @AusGovInfra @AfdoOffice

So, if you wonder why accessible tourism has issues look at the airlines and their attitudes. @Qantas half the fun is getting there apparently, fk me. Great customer service is a phrase that needs to be understood and implemented. #inclusion #tourism

@wittysone Sadly yes it is. But even if it wasn't regular it still wouldn't be good enough. We need airlines to understand a mobility aid isn't a set of golf clubs. One is a luxury. One is a necessity.

from the 3rd review of DSAPT (2021); Issue of Bus Stops in Tas : Further issues revolve around differing perspectives between the Tasmanian Government and councils on roles and responsibilities as they apply to bus stops in municipal areas. @BeyondDSAPT

This will impact regional Australians as well. Truly an amazing decision. @BeyondDSAPT the line in the sand has been drawn. We need a stronger DDA and greeter powers for the AHRC. PwD take a look and if you aren't already angry, raise your voice enough is enough.
Rich Witbreuk@wittysone

These type of decisions ensure that PwD will not get equal access to services, deprive people of employment opportunities. The DDA shouldn't be used due to companies poor foresight and design. @BenGauntlettDDC @AlboMP Its time to change things up.

@wittysone We were dismayed and deflated thats for sure. Just can't see how a reasonable person could read the decision and the related submissions by disabled people and orgs and see it as a decision with merit. We had some wins ARA were against which means neither side goes away happy.

So yesterday The Australian Human Rights Commission granted The Australaian Railway Association another round of exemptions. If PwD are again ignored what is the point of the DDA? This decision highlights that PwD are systematically neglected. @BeyondDSAPT

@BeyondDSAPT ‘Legacy’ - a very good word we should be asking & reminding the powers to be how future events, host cities, councils, state / federal Government (let alone transport providers) will enable positive legacies for people with disabilities to occur? What’s are their real fears?

@DeanDeca Geoff Trappett our chair specifically pointed out to Qld gov this week that we should be ensuring those local governments and providers covered shouldn't be relying on exemptions. That would destroy all semblance of positive 'legacy'.

@BeyondDSAPT I’m curious how these exemptions will apply when we will be hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2032 Olympic Games along with at least several major events that NSW will be hosting also and how Australians with disabilities will be best served by these exemptions?

NITAN holds firm concerns the granting of exemptions such as these announced this afternoon set the disabled rights movement back. Finding 10 of the 3rd DSAPT review noted concerns of rolling over exemptions. Yet it continues. More to come. #humanrights humanrights.gov.au/sites/default/…

@davidbelcher @InclusionMoves @Graemeinnes @davidbelcher NITAN held a roundtable a fortnight ago on what we see is undoubtedly institutional neglect in the transport space. We look forward to further discussions allowing them to include tangible recommendations which will move us forward in their report.

Too many of us feel like we are doing the same articles and the same complaints. Day in day out its a fight to live in a world not designed for you. This must change @BeyondDSAPT '@Graemeinnes fights to change how disabled people are treated when they fly' theage.com.au/national/graem…

@dana_advocacy @10NewsFirstMelb @DRCadvocacy @AfdoOffice @DRC_AU Amazing work by all. I love the long format reporting. Allowing disabled people to explain their story with authenticity. The impacts of exclusion are undeniable but often hidden from the public. Keep an eye out for part 2 tonight!

Im wondering what the position of @Greens @AustralianLabor is on the compliance of accessible bus stops/buses/trains etc Many place around Oz still dont have proper access to public transport. Buses and bus stops should be compliant by the end of the year. what will you do?
