What else is there to say? This is terrible messaging, it's not resonating, the average voter is not thinking about marginal tax cuts and smaller government, this isn't the 90s, and he's not gonna change.

This race is about whether our Party stays conservative and unites the right to beat the NDP or whether we let liberals hijack everything weโve built and turn us into BC United 2.0.
Iโve answered every question put to me head on and I wonโt apologize for challenging other candidates on their Conservative credentials. Too much is at stake.

There is a lot of talk about "purity tests" with regard to the BC Conservative leadership race. Of course, it would be ridiculous to put the voters you're courting through such a test. But the suggestion that individuals running to lead the party should somehow avoid scrutiny for past remarks, positions or votes in the legislature is equally ridiculous. 42,000 Conservative party members are responsible for choosing the individual who will likely become the next Premier of a province with 5.7 million people and a $320 billion economy. They want to be confident of the values, character and readiness of the candidate they choose to elect. And I don't blame them.

I described the motion accurately and even included the full text (see again below). It was an NDP motion condemning Canada for having committed genocide under the UN Convention. A state that commits genocide is a genocide state.
Do you think we committed genocide as defined in article II of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide? If yes, then we disagree. If not, why are you defending it?

@howardanglin The wording of the motion didn't call Canada a genocidal state. Since a unanimous motion can pass or fail based on its precise wording, being specific here matters. You can believe the motion implied your assertion, but it is misleading to claim Conservatives voted for that.

No itโs not. Did you not read?
Yes, we shouldnโt purity test voters as Aaron said. But when you are running for leadership of a party, what youโve said previously and stood for previously can be used to scrutinize you.
Itโs on the candidate to be able to articulate whatโs changed or if that scrutiny isnโt true. If you canโt do that then you donโt deserve to be leader.

We need to stop taking a party outlook on these things. The most โconservativeโ candidate could also look like a far right nut job to the average voter. Instead of putting values on a spectrum, it needs to be about electability.
