What else is there to say? This is terrible messaging, it's not resonating, the average voter is not thinking about marginal tax cuts and smaller government, this isn't the 90s, and he's not gonna change.

Couldn't agree more, Aaron! This race is about whether our Party stays conservative and unites the right to beat the NDP or whether we let liberals hijack everything weโ€™ve built and turn us into BC United 2.0. Iโ€™ve answered every question put to me head on and I wonโ€™t apologize for challenging other candidates on their Conservative credentials. Too much is at stake. Letโ€™s protect our Party and build our province!
Aaron Gunn@AaronGunn

There is a lot of talk about "purity tests" with regard to the BC Conservative leadership race. Of course, it would be ridiculous to put the voters you're courting through such a test. But the suggestion that individuals running to lead the party should somehow avoid scrutiny for past remarks, positions or votes in the legislature is equally ridiculous. 42,000 Conservative party members are responsible for choosing the individual who will likely become the next Premier of a province with 5.7 million people and a $320 billion economy. They want to be confident of the values, character and readiness of the candidate they choose to elect. And I don't blame them.

@CalvinMacNeil @AaronGunn @GurvSC If you think I left that campaign because โ€œNick was meanโ€, youโ€™re truly clueless. Start doing your own research, ask some of the staff the hard questions. There are some great people on Carolineโ€˜s team, and then there are some real crooks!

@AnthonyRussoBC @AaronGunn @GurvSC You canโ€™t just accuse people of criminal activity and have nothing backing it up. Iโ€™ll switch my vote immediately if they broke election laws, but youโ€™re just saying it

@AnthonyRussoBC @AaronGunn @GurvSC I donโ€™t even work on a campaign. This is just my opinion. You though. Youโ€™re trying to boost your channels through being divisive and causing drama publicly. Youโ€™re driving people apart for your own benefit.

I described the motion accurately and even included the full text (see again below). It was an NDP motion condemning Canada for having committed genocide under the UN Convention. A state that commits genocide is a genocide state. Do you think we committed genocide as defined in article II of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide? If yes, then we disagree. If not, why are you defending it?
Howard Anglin tweet media
Rachel Enns@MadAboutPaper

@howardanglin The wording of the motion didn't call Canada a genocidal state. Since a unanimous motion can pass or fail based on its precise wording, being specific here matters. You can believe the motion implied your assertion, but it is misleading to claim Conservatives voted for that.

@GurvSC @AaronGunn Iโ€™m saying the concept of purity in general is retarded. This has been a 1 dimension race with purity being that dimension. We need to look at electability, at their ability to appeal to people who donโ€™t currently vote conservative.

No itโ€™s not. Did you not read? Yes, we shouldnโ€™t purity test voters as Aaron said. But when you are running for leadership of a party, what youโ€™ve said previously and stood for previously can be used to scrutinize you. Itโ€™s on the candidate to be able to articulate whatโ€™s changed or if that scrutiny isnโ€™t true. If you canโ€™t do that then you donโ€™t deserve to be leader.

@Women___Exist @AaronGunn @GurvSC No Iโ€™m saying the general electorate doesnโ€™t give a fuck about this stuff. The people who care enough to sign up for a membership are the people purity testing We canโ€™t pick a leader thatโ€™s a principled conservative to us and a far right nut job to the average Joe

@CalvinMacNeil @AaronGunn @GurvSC So, you're suggesting the masses are incapable of parsing information, asking questions, listening to answers to questions and responses, and studying all available evidence for themselves in order to decide which leader they want in charge?

@OhBoyItsKale @AaronGunn @GurvSC No itโ€™s about not saying oh so and so isnโ€™t conservative enough for the Conservative Party. Itโ€™s not about whether youโ€™re conservative enough, itโ€™s about whether you can win and you have good ideas for when you do.

@CarolFielding1 @Prominent_Bryan This literally defeats the point of ranked choice ballots. Ranked choices ballots are meant to stop strategic voting, second ballots actually help us get a better leader with a stronger mandate.

@Prominent_Bryan No second choice for me! Not going to risk watering down my first choice! I learned my lesson during the Dianne Watts leadership! On the 5th ballot we got an Andrew Wilkinson, we saw what happened from there!

Well do you think the Milobar/Black voters would have as second choice between Elliott and Fulmer?

@BillboardChris Yes, but there are no votes on a unanimous consent motion making the claim, "you not only voted for this but also whipped your party members into voting for it" objectively false.

As part of a larger fact-checking article I'm working on: KLF told Elliott to โ€œlook it upโ€ on the "genocide" whip claimโ€”so I did (it appears the Elliott campaign did not). KLF was not the Conservative caucus whip when that vote took place. She assumed the role in September 2022.
Caroline Elliott@NVanCaroline

Kerry-Lynne Findlay whipped the Conservative caucus to vote that Canada is a genocidal state. I stand up and fight back against NDP activists who compare our country's history to the worst atrocities in human history. One of us has a spine. One of us doesn't. British Columbians don't need a leader who folds to activist pressure and legitimizes lies about our country.

That wasnโ€™t a debate it was a stress test. And not everyone passed. I break down where Caroline Elliott lost the room, why Kerry-Lynne Findlay came out on top, and what it means if this movement is serious about being populist and not for sale. Who do you think actually won? #conservative #politics #bcpoli #LeadershipDebate
