I know a dude who was fired from a job in 2023 When he got hired again, they wanted a referral from his old job that fired him. He said he was laid off. He registered a similar looking domain, created an email mimicking a former boss's email. Gave them that and then gave his own referral when they contacted that email. He never got caught.
