@DThompsonDev I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I think too many developers think about the “How” and not the “Why” when it comes to bulletpoints.

@randomrecruiter I’ve thought about this a lot. Regarding dev work; even as an IC the closer you are to product, the more you have explicit metrics. The closer you get to marketing, support, glue work, the harder it gets to quantify.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got came early in my career: stay an individual contributor. In recruiting, your production is a number on a scoreboard. You can literally point to it and say "that's what I'm worth." For better or worse, you eat what you kill. The second you move into management, that disappears. Doesn't matter how good you are. If you inherit a bad team or your people underperform, that's your problem now. Your ceiling becomes someone else's floor. I got promoted into management early and walked away from it, but went back to being an IC after about a month because I hated it. For years I wondered if I made a mistake because my goal at the time was to climb into the executive level later in my career. Turns out it was the best career decision I ever made. Today I don't have much of a desire to become an executive anymore. I just want to worry about myself, keep control of my calendar, and exit the rat race by 40-45. Being an IC in my industry also opened up a ton of doors. When I was laid off last year, I had a handful of hard job offers in less than 2 weeks. Meanwhile, virtually every company in my industry (or every industry for that matter) continues to cut back on management layers. Most of the managers I know that lost their job last year are still looking for work 4 months into 2026. Glad I listened to that advice.

You don't even need the data to prove it. Survival is incentivized by biology. At the individual level and as a species. What do people love most? Sex, food, comfy bed Of course raising children is biologically rewarding, the species would die otherwise Anti-family propaganda

“Children don’t make you happy” - The Daily Mail I'm no researcher, but I downloaded the dataset and looked for myself. The study's numbers say the EXACT OPPOSITE of the headline 👇🏻

‼️Do not npm install or deploy anything right now Supply chain attack on axios 1.14.1 - even if you don’t use axios it may be a nested dep. Pin versions or wait until this is resolved
Maxwell@mvxvvll

@npmjs @GHSecurityLab there is an active supply chain attack on axios@1.14.1 which pulls in a malicious package published today - plain-crypto-js@4.2.1 - someone took over a maintainer account for Axios

Do you feel like you wasted a lot of time and effort learning software and tech? It doesn't seem like this is gonna last for a lot of us for much longer.
