The fall of Portland, Oregon Here are major retailers that left Portland over declining conditions due to Democrat policies from 2022–2026 - Nike Community Factory Store (Operated since 1984, 40 years) Closed permanently because of 276 shoplifting reports in one year. They cited deteriorating public safety. Nike sent a letter to the mayor citing conditions - Walmart (Both Portland Locations)
580 employees laid off - Target (Three Stores)
Reason: Explicitly cited organized retail crime and shoplifting - REI
Reason: Highest break-in rate in two decades; over $800,000 spent on extra security in 2022 (including multiple incidents, one with a vehicle through the doors on Black Friday) - U.S. Bank (U.S. Bancorp Tower) Announced it would not renew its long-term lease
Building Sale: Sold in July 2025 for $45 million (down from $372 million in 2015 — ~88% value decline). - Wells Fargo
Announced plans to exit Portland - Starbucks
Closed at least 5–6 Portland locations in September 2025 alone. - Nordstrom Rack (Downtown)
 - CVS Pharmacy (SW Broadway) Reason: Employee cited shoplifting as a factor Malls Major Retail Centers also closed Pioneer Place Mall: Once had roughly 100 stores. It’s now down to 20. Described as a “dead mall.” • Lloyd Center Mall: Confirmed for full demolition. Now 90% vacant PacWest Center: Sold October 2025 for $55.7 million (down from $170 million in 2016. That’s a 67% drop) - Montgomery Park: Sold August 2024 for $33 million (down from $255 million in 2019, that’s a 87% drop)

Increase the property tax on airbnb's and out of state 2nd home owners. It could free up some houses for full time residents to buy, if Investors give up and sell. And at the same time eliminate fraud and waste. Get rid of the teachers union. Did I read it correctly that some teachers took their students out of class May 1 to protest? WTF

@EricLDaugh How would this work? In most states, property taxes pay for schools, water districts, wastewater districts, stormwater districts, fire departments, libraries, and sometimes hospitals. Look at your tax bill. It’s a long list. How will those things be funded?

🚨 JUST IN: Gov. Ron DeSantis is OFFICIALLY moving to abolish property taxes for Florida homeowners but wants to make sure New Yorkers who FLEE the DAY AFTER it passes can't exploit the system "Should someone from New York be able to move the DAY AFTER the election and not pay?! They should pay for a time! Why would we want to incentivize that?" You should be able to OWN your home rent-free from the government! The first state to do this will be HEROES 🇺🇸

@mattvanswol a scared young man over 6 feet tall is near impossible to control like that. that officer is a beast. that being said, there has to be a non-lethal, safer method, to control another human in this type of situation. i guess the taser is the best option at the moment.

Contrarian position on Billionaires tax. I'm not in favor of CA taking one more dollar in taxes, but I'm also not sure why this tax is seen as unfair. We have property taxes on both homes and cars. There used to be an inventory tax on goods held by businesses each year. So, why would stocks, jewelry, paintings, etc. be any different. The argument that these individuals would have to liquidate assets to pay the tax is no different at all than my needing to liquidate assets to pay property taxes. What am I missing?

@HeidiBriones @nfergus @Caltech Have you ever noticed in Vegas when a group of young women go out they all look similar? Same outfits. In college, young women are desperately trying to fit in, make friends, be desirable. Can't do that and be a conservative at 80% of them these days

He was brilliant, w/an extremely high IQ. But also more foolish--DUMBER--than almost anyone. Did he think he would succeed & somehow escape? Was this a suicide attempt? The odds of "success" were essentially ZERO. What drove him to this madness?

1/ WATCH: Cole Allen in his own words… The California computer scientist, 31, accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner isn’t just any would-be killer — he is an elite-trained engineer from Caltech, where students with perfect SAT scores gain admission. And now — in a new @FoxNews Digital story with my colleague @pmd_reports — I’ve unearthed a video of him from 2017 speaking publicly about…yes, creating brakes for wheelchairs to make life easier for seniors. 🔗 Read our full story here: foxnews.com/us/cole-allen-…

Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.

You can tell a lot about a man about how they instinctively respond when it hits the fan. In this photo, Stephen Miller moves on top of his pregnant wife to protect her. Pete Hegseth stands over his wife, surveying the scene while leaning over, protecting her.

What shocks me whenever I come to the USA is how much BETTER the place and people are in real life compared to what gets amplified on social media. This is true almost everywhere, but because so much online 'content' originates from the US, it's particularly striking.
