ICE did it again - released a detainee far from her home without notifying her family. Three days after having an ankle monitor put on by ICE, 31 year old Daphy Michel was found unresponsive at a bus station. She died later that day. Daphy was seeking asylum in the US. Her brother lives in the US and has TPS status. She had a hearing scheduled for April on her immigration case. Her brother was waiting to hear when she would be released so he could bring her home. ICE hasn’t answered questions from Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 about when Daphy arrived at the ERO Pittsburgh office, when she received the ankle monitor, how long she was in custody, and where & when she was released.

Haitian immigrant last seen in ICE custody—found dead on the street 3 days later. Agents drove her 1 hour away from home for processing—then released without notifying her family. Her body was found near a bus stop. Police say she had "significant mental health episode" that landed her in county jail. But ICE picked her up after judge dismissed all charges and drove her 1 hour away to Pittsburgh. "Told her brother charges were dismissed on Thursday. She doesn't come out on Friday. He gets a call on Monday that she's dead," lawyer explained. "It seems perfectly reasonable if you're going to take someone all the way up here and that far out of their element—you could just as easily have driven them back." Daphy Michel, only 31 years old, was living and working in Penny under Temporary Protected Status as a Haitian refugee.

In my defense one of the sellers had a manager who slept in his truck (at the shop) after going to the casino and strip club. One of the mechanics would go to the bar during his lunch break I learned all this in the first week after I bought the store So it’s fair to say there were a lot of “value add” opportunities

This is me I own 36 auto repair shops, doing $50M a year in revenue So, you’re probably thinking I have investors or trust fund. But the reality is I don’t have either I started 10 years ago when my brother and I bought 2 stores from a boomer. Took all the money I made and bought another store in 2017. Then 2 more in 2018 and every year since. While everyone else is chasing crypto, AI, and all this “cool” shit. I’m doing the opposite. Just trying to buy auto repair shops from old people and run them better. I’m not a mechanic and I’ve never fixed a car in my life. But I got really good at building teams and betting on myself. We’re just getting started So, follow along for the journey.

Sam Altman said people saying “please” and “thank you” to ChatGPT costs OpenAI tens of millions of dollars a year in compute. 67% of Americans do it anyway. Run the math on why. A 2024 Waseda University study tested LLM responses across politeness levels in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Impolite prompts produced measurably worse outputs: more bias, more errors, more refusals. Moderate politeness consistently beat both extremes. The mechanism makes sense once you see it. Polite prompts pattern-match to higher-quality training data. When you write “Could you help me structure this analysis?”, the model pulls from professional, well-reasoned text. When you write “give me the answer,” it pulls from Reddit. Google DeepMind’s Murray Shanahan explained it simply: the model is role-playing a smart intern. Treat the intern like a colleague, you get colleague-quality work. Bark orders, you get minimum-viable compliance. Now look at the cost side. OpenAI handles over a billion queries daily. Each GPT-4 query uses roughly 2.9 watt-hours, ten times a Google search. But OpenAI just raised $40 billion at a $300 billion valuation. Tens of millions in politeness tokens is a rounding error on a rounding error. 67% of users do it anyway, and 55% of them say it’s because it’s “the right thing to do.” They’re maintaining a behavioral habit that governs every other interaction in their life. The parent who teaches their kid to say please to Alexa isn’t doing it for Alexa. They’re doing it because the alternative is raising someone who learns that being rude gets faster results. Telling 900 million people to stop saying thank you so OpenAI can save 0.01% of operating costs is the most engineer-brained optimization take on the internet. You’re training yourself to treat every interaction as a transaction. And that habit doesn’t stay in the chat window.

A $500 billion blockchain exists because a 15 year old cried himself to sleep over a World of Warcraft update In 2010, Blizzard nerfed Vitalik Buterin's favorite Warlock spell in World of Warcraft His own words: "I cried myself to sleep, and on that day I realized what horrors centralized services can bring" Quit the game. A year later his dad showed him Bitcoin. He couldn't mine it and couldn't afford to buy it. So he started writing articles for a crypto blog for 5 BTC each, worth about $3.50 at the time. Those 5 BTC are worth $335,000 today for ONE article. Co-founded Bitcoin Magazine at 17. Applied for a job at Ripple. They accepted him but couldn't sponsor his visa. At 19 he proposed major changes to Bitcoin. The community said no. So he wrote his own whitepaper. Called it Ethereum. 30 developers reached out within weeks. Dropped out of college. Got a $100K Thiel Fellowship. Sold ETH at $0.31 in the ICO and raised $18 million. One person spent $310,000 on 1 million ETH in that sale worth around $4.3 billion at peak. Another one invested $263 and got 850 ETH now worth over $1.7 million. Ethereum launched when Vitalik was 21. Peak market cap: over $500 billion. All because Blizzard nerfed a Warlock spell.

I don't think the industry and games journalists understand how little gamers care about what is happening to the games industry right now. The 40-person studio that made "Expedition 33" is comprised of former Ubisoft developers. Ubisoft hasn't made a game as good as "Expedition 33" in at least ten years. Ubisoft employs 17,000 people. If all of them lose their jobs and some of those people manage to form even a single small studio that makes a game as good as "Expedition 33," then we one more great game to play than we would have had otherwise, because Ubisoft will never make a great game. Great games are not Ubisoft's business model and that is why Ubisoft is unsalvageable. What is happening in the games industry right now is not the destruction of anything that deserves to be preserved. We are seeing the inevitable collapse of giant corporate studios that make mediocre games that nobody wants to play.
Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly@kiwitalkz

I don't think gamers really understand how bad of a state the video game industry is in right now. The Rockstar developer I am interviewing next week has been unemployed for a year, he can't find work and this is someone who worked on L.A. Noire, RDR1, GTA V and RDR2!! Even with an impressive resume he can't even get interviews, I wasn't exaggerating when I said we are in the midst of an extinction level event of talent in the game industry.
