NEW: Tourist who threw a rock at a seal in Hawaii because he was "rich" enough to pay any fines has been arrested by federal agents. Igor Mykhaylovych Lytvynchuk, 38, was arrested for throwing a massive rock at Lani the seal. Lytvynchuk was beaten by locals after throwing the rock and has now been taken into custody. Lani is just one of 1,600 monk seals left. According to the complaint, when a witness confronted Lytvynchuk, he said: "He did not care and was 'rich' enough to pay any fine." "Lani is a reminder that humanity and the instinct to protect what is vulnerable are still values people can unite around," said Maui Mayor Richard Bissen. Lytvynchuk is facing a fine of up to $50,000 under the Endangered Species Act as well as another fine of up to $20,000 under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Despite being "rich," money may not buy Lytvynchuk out of all his problems, as he faces up to a year in prison.

The speech is free, but the consequences are not. If there was someone on the other side of the aisle saying things outside of mainstream thought ABC wouldn't have it. It's less about Kimmel's free speech and more about what ABC supports and protects. As a "comedian," he can find another gig.

I strongly disagree here. I'm not a fan of Kimmel and don't find him to be entertaining, but comedy is free speech (even if you don't find it funny). Kimmel is protected by the same First Amendment rights as you or me when we share memes, jokes, commentary that some may find offensive. "Hate Speech" is a make believe "thought crime." Calling for someone to be canceled over jokes is the same leftist response we rallied against. If you don't like Kimmel, don't watch. Don't share his clips. Don't mention his name. The same applies to every other content creator you don't like. When you engage, you amplify their voices. Ignore them, they go away.

In 2024, Congress posthumously awarded all 13 the Congressional Gold Medal—its highest honor—for their sacrifice during the evacuation. Today's Pentagon announcement upgrades valor awards only for surviving Marines from Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines who held the gate. No upgrades were mentioned for the fallen.

STATEMENT: Following the Afghanistan Withdrawal Special Review Panel’s recommendation and at the direction of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, the United States Marine Corps has upgraded the valor awards for the Marines of Company G, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, who stood at Abbey Gate on 26 August 2021. After reviewing the original awards and determining that several had been inappropriately downgraded, these awards have now been upgraded to levels that more accurately reflect the extreme risk these Marines knowingly accepted and the lives they saved under direct enemy fire.   The Marines at Abbey Gate were positioned in the direct blast zone with minimal cover, fully aware of an imminent suicide attack, yet they held their ground to keep evacuation operations running. Their actions that day were heroic. The original awards did not reflect that reality. Today’s upgrades correct that injustice.   This outcome would not have happened without the personal leadership and commitment of Under Secretary of War for Personnel & Readiness Anthony Tata and Senior Advisor Stu Scheller who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure these Marines receive the recognition they deserve. Mr. Scheller personally shepherded this effort, driving the process forward until justice was done.   This outcome also demonstrates what the Afghanistan Withdrawal Special Review Panel was created to do: examine the full record, identify where the system failed our warfighters, and ensure accountability and fairness. The Department of War, under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, is committed to getting this right. We will not allow valor performed at the point of friction to be diminished by bureaucratic or administrative shortcomings.   To the Marines of Company G and to every service member who stood at Abbey Gate: your actions were seen, your sacrifice was measured correctly, and your valor is now properly recognized.   The Panel will continue its broader work to ensure the lessons from 2021 are learned and that we never again place our warfighters in positions where their courage is not fully honored.   We owe the American people, the families of the fallen, and every service member who served in Afghanistan nothing less than the truth and the corrections that truth demands.

This one broke me today.💔 A 38 year old nurse and mountaineer named Saleheh Akbari and her husband Ahmad Khodaei opened their home to wounded protesters who were too scared to go to hospitals on Jan 8 and 9, because the regime was hunting them down. They treated them. Hid them. Saved lives. A few days later, on January 12, security forces raided their house. Ahmad wasn’t home yet, so they waited. When he walked in, they jumped him and started beating him. Saleheh threw herself between them to protect her husband. They shot her in the heart. Point blank. Right in front of Ahmad, and their little 8 year old. She died in his arms. The grief destroyed him. Ahmad couldn’t carry it. He wrote one last letter to his wife, said goodbye to the world and posted it on his Instagram. He took his own life. Two hearts that only wanted to help people, gone.
