@jimthegiant @ZackPolanski Yea that’s bad @ZackPolanski , Putin is truly horrendous. Putin is directly responsible for the death of a British civilian on British soil and he has orchestrated numerous attacks on targets in the UK. Trump is awful too, but Putin is still in his very own class of evil.

Very bad take here from Zack - Putin is LITERALLY doing this right now to Ukraine and has done since 2014. Don't nullify the threat of Russia because America is also a threat, shit like this is disappointing. I hope @ZackPolanski will get a knowledgable Ukrainian on @_BoldPolitics and get better advice on geopol in general
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Zack Polanski suggests Donald Trump is worse than Vladimir Putin “As horrendous as Putin is… I’ve never seen him threaten genocide. I've never seen him threaten to wipe out a civilization… Starmer’s so-called special relationship is more of a danger than what Putin is doing in Ukraine” [@antoguerrera]

The YouGov poll suggesting 65% of Britons back the Green Party's 10-to-1 pay cap would make an interesting test case. Explain what the policy would mean in practice - perhaps using a relatable example like the Premier League - and then run the survey again... 🤔

@julianHjessop Companies would move overseas, they may leave local offices, facilities with local managers but the business and corporate taxes will be in another country. Lower paid jobs would be lost and the work done through contractors

@julianHjessop They keep floating these Socialist ideas in polla to guage public opinion on the State deciding how much peoole should earn and what they can do with their money. People are only supporting it because, for the moment, it won't be their money the State is after

*Some* renewables are cheap but the most recent contracts signed for wind farms are *more expensive* than gas. Those prices are index-linked and guaranteed for years. That doesn't mean renewables are *bad* but they are not "cheap".
alex thomson@alextomo

FT - at last - reports that R Reeves will finally stop the system that allows (expensive and dirty) gas to set the price electricity - allowing renewables (cheap and clean) to influence price . Why has this taken so long?

@jovialboy70 @timleunig @meadwaj If they want to be paid more they just have to pay the people who generate the profits more I.e. the workers. The workers can pay the tax instead (:

@timleunig @meadwaj Hypothetically even if they don’t leave, they still pay less tax as they earn less. Any surplus goes to the corporates who’s marginal tax rates are half that of the workers. Would need to recover it from them which kills investment etc. brain dead idea

@PensionsMonkey We barely teach economics at school. Very few people will do either GCSE or A Level economics. Most people never learn anything about economics during their time at school. It’s a subject the masses are simply never taught. What else would we expect to happen?

David Maddox, The Independent, says that he knew Mandelson had failed security vetting, published an article, and contacted the head of communications at Downing Street in September So the idea that Labour's Downing Street only just found out is not true

The Holocaust started with skilled propagandists who used sophisticated advertising techniques and the most current technology of the time to spread their antisemitic message. They incited hatred and fostered a climate of indifference to the fate of Jews. The modern equivalent is the antisemitic “genocide” blood libel. The prevalence shows us where we are as a society. These people are convinced they’re the good guys.

@Exbritriate @PeterMcCormack How on earth do you destroy demand by making businesses pay taxes who then leave out of spite. Either the market exists or it doesn’t, surely the free market will be there if there is a gap 🤡

@RealDareel @PeterMcCormack There won’t be competitors. Their will only be state run services because you destroyed the market. And yes, they’ll leave when sanctions are factored in. Like I said they are breaking trade deals. If everyone left Russia theyll leave a tiny island that probably sees less profit

Good news for the Green Parry, if they win the election, all the people they dislike we leave the country. The bad news, they are the people who have the money you want to tax.

@SamDickinson @PeterMcCormack And they’ll still have customers here? so they can still be taxed. I’m not proposing an extra tax on work but if they wanted to sack their staff in a huff then the staff should have an opportunity to take over the uk part of their business. This conversation is rather daft.

@Exbritriate @PeterMcCormack It will be difficult for the uk to act alone I’ll grant you that but it is necessary to act so if we have to be the first big one so be it. Companies leave and then? They’ll burn their assets here? Their customers? They’ll leave them to a competitor so they don’t have to pay tax?

@RealDareel @PeterMcCormack How big do you think the UK is? If the UK wants to implement tax controls without offshoring profit then companies will just leave. If they want to break all their dual tax treaties then they won’t be trusted and assets will be sold cratering their value.

@RealDareel @PeterMcCormack Some assets cant be moved but lots can and will be. The tax on the way out is not as effective as you think becuase just the talk of a party doing this that have a chance of winning means the plan is already in place to move the assets.
