Anthropic just announced Opus 4.8 and they’re positioning it as one of the most powerful coding models available. I’ll definitely try it, but I’ve been thinking for a while now that benchmarks no longer reflect what users actually perceive in real-world usage. Models have become so good that most quality jumps are barely noticeable anymore. For me, the real value of a model today isn’t scoring 3 more points on a benchmark. It’s being fast, affordable, efficient with tokens, reliable, and pleasant to use daily. Those are the features that actually feel meaningful to users.
