@seanyhynz Agreed. The Hobbit was too long at 3 films and LotR totally cut Tom Bombadil out, but apart from those minor gripes, the films were mostly a good homage to the books. I really hope they don't go down the Star Wars route with endless and hopeless spin-offs.

@SpitefulMidget Same and the film trilogy can’t be improved imo, it’s WB trying to squeeze the IP for every penny.

@Frank_letmebe @StretfordPost @Eruja1 United fans aren't complaining about maguire getting sent off or the subsequent penalty, it's the the foul on Amad going unpunished that's the issue. The fact that two other penalties were given for similar fouls in the same game just adds salt to the wound.

I don’t care what the referees’ association says none of it gives those two points back, does it? Apologies mean nothing when the damage is already done. And this isn’t some one-off mistake you can brush under the carpet it keeps happening, and far too often to United. At some point, it stops being “human error” and starts looking like a system that simply isn’t fit for purpose. If a referee makes a decisive mistake that directly costs a team points, there has to be real accountability. Not quiet internal reviews, not vague statements actual consequences. Suspend them. Review their performances properly. And most importantly, introduce retrospective action where the team that was clearly wronged is compensated. Because right now, what’s the deterrent? What actually changes? English refereeing has a serious credibility issue. It operates like a closed circle, protected from scrutiny, where mistakes are acknowledged but never truly punished. Until that changes until there’s transparency and real accountability these “apologies” will keep coming, and nothing else will.

@paulenglish1961 I wonder what the betting odds were on 1 penalty for each side and a red card? If you catch my drift?

I’ve seen last nights Amad penalty decision so many times over the last 24 hours and I’m convinced VAR didn’t get involved last night because they didn’t want to embarrass Atwell who would have needed to both disallow a goal and give a penalty to the away team. It was never going to happen because these guys have no morals. VAR is broken. I’ve read they didn’t want to get involved because of the on field decision. Ask ETH about that in his last game at West Ham United. It’s a complete joke. #MUFC #UTFR #GGMU #ManUnited #ManchesterUnited #ManUtd

@UtdForever7 So let me get this straight, United didn't complain when a decision benefited them and because they've had a few decisions go for them their compliant is somehow lessened? Madness

🚨🗣️ Mike Dean: “They will complain but they didn't complain when Dalot wasn't sent off in the Manchester derby. “I think the two incidents are completely different. Maguire is a dead cert, it's a simple decision. It's easy - it's a sending-off all day. “The first one could have been a penalty but there was doubt about how he went down - that's why he hasn't given it. I could see why he didn't give it. And I can see why it's referee's call. “I understand they have made a complaint but you have to backtrack as well because they have had a few calls [in their favour] this year that have gone on referee's call.” #MUFC [Soccer Saturday]

In a little over 24 hours time former colleagues and friends will gather in silence outside Parliament to remember Metropolitan Police Constable Keith Palmer GM (George Medal posthumously). PC Palmer, whilst unarmed tackled a knifeman attempting to carry out a terrorist attack within the grounds of the British Parliament on the 22nd March 2017. His actions allowed other officers to confront and shoot dead his attacker but not before PC Palmer had received a fatal stab wound. Pictured; 1. Floral tributes laid by the public opposite the site of Keith's murder. 2. The Memorial to Keith outside the gates of the Palace of Westminster. 3. Book of remembrance for fallen officers The Mall, London. 4. Chief Inspector (Supt) Wynne City of London police laying a wreath for Keith handed to him by family members of knife crime victims. A touching display of respect between a man and his fallen colleague. Two men who likely never met but unbreakably joined in a shared duty to each other and to us. A fleeting moment in time as many passed without notice as busy London life moved on. An image I was deeply moved by and am proud to have paused and witnessed. Thank you to all our police who day in day out face such threats on our behalf. All cops are ******** As I was walking to catch a bus, sirens suddenly started coming from several directions. My attention was drawn to a lone police officer and two PCSOs fighting to save a man’s life. A passenger on a bus had gone into cardiac arrest and, without hesitation, they were on the floor administering CPR in a desperate attempt to bring him back. Within moments a trainee doctor joined them, and the fight to keep the man alive continued. A few minutes later — although it felt far longer — more officers arrived along with the first paramedic car. The man’s heart stopped more than once, but the effort never stopped. CPR continued, equipment arrived, and after a long battle at the scene the patient was finally prepared for transport to hospital in a critical condition, connected to everything possible to keep him alive. Medics later told the officer and PCSOs that without their immediate actions, the man would not even have made it to an ambulance. By pure chance they had been on a bus behind when they were alerted, and with no kit and no time to think, they went straight to work. Once relieved by paramedics and other officers arriving, the first officer went straight back to duty, protecting the scene and asking people to use an alternative route as the pavement had been closed. Having moments earlier been pumping a man’s chest trying to keep him alive, he then found himself dealing with the annoyance of members of the public unhappy at being told they could not walk through. It was a telling moment. I spoke briefly with the officer afterwards. He told me he has dealt with injured people before, and has been present at scenes involving the deceased, but this was the first time he had to perform CPR himself on the street. Those who have been in that position will know exactly how something like that stays with you long after the incident is over. For all the criticism aimed at police on social media, this is the side rarely seen — usually unreported — and forgotten with all the hate-officers going from routine patrol to life-and-death in seconds, doing everything they can to save someone they have never met, and carrying the weight of it afterwards. I do not know what the outcome will be for the patient, but one thing is certain — without that officer and those PCSOs, he would not have left that place alive. My thoughts are not only with the patient, and I hope he makes a recovery, but also with everyone who was there, especially the first officer on scene and the PCSOs. Today they made the difference. Sadly, I have stood at too many scenes where the fight ends differently. @CrimeLdn @obbsie @TomGaymor @Brick_Cop @metpoliceuk @MPSCroydon

Two suspected Iranian spies—a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested yesterday after trying to enter HMNB Clyde, Britain's nuclear sub base at Faslane. They literally just... asked to come in, got denied, and were nicked anyway. Genius tactics there... Thoughts on this?

As a Bishop, I cannot stay silent. I have today drafted and sent an open letter to His Majesty King Charles III, the text of which reads as follows: To: His Majesty, Charles III, King of the United Kingdom and the Realms, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, Bearer of the ancient title Defender of the Faith. Your Majesty, I write to you neither as a politician nor as a commentator, but as one of your loyal subjects who, as a bishop of Christ’s Church, cannot remain silent while the Christian foundations of this kingdom are steadily dismantled. Sir, there are moments in the life of a nation when silence becomes a form of betrayal. If I refused to speak to Your Majesty now, this would be such a moment. For more than a thousand years the Crown of this realm has stood in solemn covenant with the Christian faith. The laws of this land were shaped by it. The liberties of our people were nurtured by it. The conscience of our civilisation was formed by it. From the abbeys of medieval England to the parish churches of our villages, from the preaching of the Reformers to the missionary zeal that carried the Gospel to the ends of the earth, the Christian faith has not merely influenced Britain — it has defined her. Yet today that inheritance is being quietly but deliberately eroded. Across the institutions of this nation there is a growing hostility toward the faith that built them. Christian belief is mocked in the public square. Christian morality is dismissed as intolerance. Christian institutions are pressured to surrender doctrine in order to conform to the ideology of the age. Within the very Church that bears the name of England, voices have arisen that appear more eager to mirror the spirit of the age than to proclaim the eternal truth of the Gospel. Meanwhile, beyond the walls of our churches, powerful political movements openly speak of removing Christianity from its historic place within the life of this nation. What would once have been whispered is now proclaimed openly: that Britain must become a post-Christian state. It is in this context that I write to you, Your Majesty. For the British Crown does not stand apart from this crisis. The Sovereign of this realm bears a title that is not merely historic but sacred in its origin and meaning: Defender of the Faith. Those words are not decorative. They are a charge. They speak of a monarch whose duty is not merely to preside over the ceremonies of the Church, but to stand as a guardian of the Christian inheritance of the nation. Yet many among your subjects now ask, with increasing anxiety: “Who will defend that inheritance today?” They see a nation drifting from its foundations. And they ask whether the Crown will remain silent while that inheritance is dismantled. Your Majesty, may I be so bold as to observe that your coronation oath was not a poetic formality. It was a solemn vow made before Almighty God to maintain and preserve the Protestant Reformed Religion established by law. Those words bind the conscience of the sovereign. They remind the Crown that its authority is not merely constitutional but moral. The monarch is not merely a symbol of national continuity, but a custodian of the spiritual inheritance that shaped this realm. History records moments when kings and emperors were confronted by the Church and reminded that their authority was accountable before God. In the fourth century Ambrose of Milan stood before the Emperor Theodosius I and reminded him that even the ruler of an empire must bow before the moral law of Christ. That tradition of prophetic witness has never disappeared. Nor should it. For when rulers forget the foundations upon which their authority rests, the Church must speak — not with hostility, but with holy clarity. And so, I write to say this, Your Majesty: The Christian character of this nation is under profound and accelerating assault. If the Crown does not stand visibly and courageously in defence of that inheritance, history will record that the guardians of Britain’s institutions watched in silence as the foundations were removed. The issue before us is not nostalgia. It is civilisation. Remove Christianity from the story of Britain and you do not create a neutral society — you create a moral vacuum. And history teaches us that moral vacuums are never left empty for long. Your Majesty now stands at a crossroads that few monarchs in modern history have faced. For the erosion of Britain’s Christian inheritance will not ultimately be judged by speeches made in Parliament or debates in the press. It will be judged by whether those entrusted with the guardianship of our ancient institutions chose to defend them — or merely preside over their quiet surrender. You may preside over the quiet dissolution of Britain’s Christian identity. Or you may rise to the ancient responsibility entrusted to the Crown and speak with clarity about the faith that built this kingdom. The first path requires little courage. The second will require a great deal. But it is the path that history honours. Your Majesty’s subjects are not asking for religious coercion. They are asking for leadership. They are asking that the sovereign who bears the title Defender of the Faith remember what that title means. They are asking that the Crown hear the growing cry of anguish from Christians across this land who feel that the spiritual inheritance of their nation is being surrendered without resistance. And they are asking whether the Crown will stand with them. For the faith that shaped Britain is not merely a cultural ornament. It is the wellspring from which our laws, our liberties, and our moral imagination have flowed. If it is cast aside, the nation will discover — too late — that it has severed itself from the very roots that sustained it. Your Majesty, to many the Crown is a symbol of authority. But before God it is also a symbol of stewardship. And stewardship carries with it the duty to defend what has been entrusted. May Almighty God grant Your Majesty the wisdom to discern this hour, and the courage to fulfil the sacred duty entrusted to the Crown. Yours faithfully, Bishop Ceirion H.
