@Trashflap2

280 isnโ€™t nearly enough - but 140 was way better! Apparently this is a Fantasy Football account now? idk, whatever. #SFB11 #SFB12 #PollysPlayoff

@NoLayingUp Great stuff. Love things that help me understand context in the moment. Also enjoy hearing you guys hit on it after the rounds sometimes, but I (personally) feel like this way helps me learn better. (Teach a man to fish, etc etc)

Been at ESPN a long time - this one was an all timer. Before social media, it was as viral as a story can be. I watched it on a tape in the news room. I couldnโ€™t stop watching his teammates.
Dr. Lemma@DoctorLemma

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didnโ€™t speak until he was five. He couldnโ€™t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldnโ€™t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5โ€™6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like heโ€™d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. โ€œThis is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.โ€ McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. Heโ€™s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. โ€œFor him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.โ€

@DrewDavenportFF On the Civil War front - guessing you might have read Killer Angels already? If not, itโ€™s an absolute must-read. Not my usual genre, but reading that was a moving experience. (In a good way)

I never seem to find the time to read as much as I want when itโ€™s football season. Time to get some new books. Iโ€™m trying to work my way through Hemingwayโ€™s list of books everyone should read (currently in the middle of The Enormous Room by e.e. cummings from the list). But, I also like to have two going at once so Iโ€™m looking for something fun/fictional that you couldnโ€™t put down. Also love any historical fiction, or anything Civil War. I am baffled by how GenX is skipped. Itโ€™s always zoomers millennials and boomers. Weโ€™re driving this thing now and walking the boomers to their doors. 1 theory is because weโ€™re the most normal and understand the old world and the new one. The others are drama queens.

@SwagzillaZeroG @DefiantLs Pluto was, factually, considered a planet at the time. But I agree with your premise that facts should be rigorously proven prior to being considered a fact, and therefore should be highly unlikely to be shown to be false.

I get that you want to encourage Dashers to participate, but the negative impact to customer experience outweighs any other factor pretty heavily.

@DoorDash_Help Why does DD policy allow drivers to accept a delivery and then sit at another restaurant for 20 minutes while our food gets cold before picking it up, even when we pay for โ€œpriority deliveryโ€?

@SwagzillaZeroG @MikeReedyFF Nah, thatโ€™s old/dumb advice. Cars hold value way better than they used to. Donโ€™t save THAT much, and opens you up to more problems and higher interest & insurance rates. Plus at the rate car tech is advancing, there are actually real reasons to buy new(er) these days.
