Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.

Record sex and gender identity as 2 separate things. Accept that every patient has a right to request a same sex practitioner and that request must be honoured, but that in emergencies it may not be possible. Seems simple enough to me. Doctors have to accept they do not have a right to keep their sex a secret from patients. No matter how well they think they ‘pass’.

We've listened to every single one of their arguments for over 10yrs and are still unpersuaded because none of them are true. 'Trans rights' are already enshrined in the Equality Act 2010 under the category 'gender reassignment.' They don't get to have ours too and that's that, ok? THEY - and you, sir - should listen to OUR arguments, as we're the ones who have been a) censored, b) hounded beyond anything approaching an acceptable way to treat someone, and c) proven correct in law. What utter hogwash. I hope this is just a poor attempt at parody. Upton is not ‘transfemale’. He’s not any sort of female. He’s not any sort of woman. He’s a man with a fetish, or a delusion, or more likely both. He didn’t say some ‘silly things’ while ‘under pressure’ in the witness box. He spoke ‘his truth’, which is that he would deliberately deceive female patients about his sex and treat them even if he knew they did not want a male doctor. He doesn’t even use a proper definition of sex. He considers himself to actually be female. The tribunal evidence shows Upton stated there was no obligation to disclose biological sex to a female patient who specifically requested a female doctor for intimate care. That is deliberate non-disclosure, not a “silly thing under pressure.” Also, he explicitly stated that “biologically female” is “completely nebulous” with “no defined or agreed meaning in science” and declared “I’m biologically female”. So you cannot possibly have actually read the transcript of his evidence to come up with your conclusions. If you have read it, you should perhaps reconsider your professional calling. My guess is you’re just hedging for points. For all your lengthy experience, I suspect you have rarely, if ever, argued a case in court or cross-examined a witness, and it shows in this comment. And let’s face it, if he truly ‘crumbled under the pressure’ in a witness box (he didn’t), he surely isn’t competent to handle the pressure of being a doctor, especially one engaged in emergency medicine where split-second life or death decisions sometimes have to be made. He also conducted a deliberate campaign to get a nurse sacked. The man is a toxic narcissist who should be nowhere near medical practice. He’s not fit to be in charge of a box of plasters. And it isn’t your place to be lecturing women on how they should respond to a colonising, misogynistic and dangerous bully. ‘Be kind’ is what got us into this mess in the first place.

ps. Autogynaephilia, paedophilia and autopaedophilia exist in men of all three sexual orientations - homo, hetero and bi. These paraphilias are neither sexual orientations in and of themselves, nor are they unique to one sexual orientation. Paraphilias are psychosexual disorders, while sexual orientation is a normal and healthy part of adult sexuality which simply describes which sex a person is sexually attracted to. Sexologists who attempted to categorise these particular paraphilias have shown to be rather blind to this, as they send these men into women-only spaces and continue to support paedophile-activist groups, and some of them even advocate for P(aedophiles) to be added to LGBT. Some of their work was intuitive and insightful. But their work was incomplete due to their own blind spots and agendas. So use your brain, eyes and instincts to refine your understanding of what we are dealing with.

He is an emergency room doctor- that means a patient in a distressed state in a vulnerable space would need to find the courage to ask.

Let's talk about what professional conduct actually means. Honesty. Integrity. Accuracy. Transparency with patients. A doctor who publicly misrepresents their own biological sex fails every single one of those standards. Dr Upton is male.
