Powerful response to Shabana Mahmood’s adoption of authoritarianism by @ZackPolanski. She was once an advocate for Palestinian and migrant rights. Whether that was sincere or cynical posturing to win at the time only she knows. What is not in doubt is that like previous Home Secretaries Suella Braverman and Priti Patel before her, as a brown woman she is fanning the hostile anti-migrant environment whilst providing cover for her Party against accusations of racism. She’s part of Morgan McSweeney gang and appears to be ideologically/financially wedded to the faction of the Labour Party that would prefer a Reform victory than a win for progressives within or outside the Party.
