A thread🧵: Let's talk about #antisemitism. It manifests on the right. It manifests on the left. It can even manifest in the center. It's in politics. It's on college campuses. It's seen at the core for many, if not most, forms of extremism. It's been mainstreamed. It's in media.

Susan Abulhawa calling American Jews "monsters" who lack conscience and see others as "subhuman"? The irony of using dehumanizing language while accusing others of dehumanization is apparently lost on her, and Briahna Joy Gray, who platformed this vile rhetoric. At a time when we're seeing an increase in violence targeting the Jewish community across the US, Abulhawa said American Jews "deserve harsher words." Any suggestion that @AIPAC— an American organization— is anything but pro-American is flat-out wrong and offensive. It's fine to disagree on policy, but it is a dual-loyalty trope dog whistle to denigrate the integrity of Americans working toward a strong US-Israel relationship.

As coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes target the Iranian regime, ADL stands with the United States, Israel and the Iranian people, who deserve dignity and freedom from a regime that murders its own citizens. Since 1979, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been the world's leading state sponsor of antisemitism and terrorism. The regime and its proxies have murdered Jews, Americans and Israelis across the globe with impunity for decades. They have oppressed and brutalized their own people through mass incarceration, torture, and execution. We pray for the safety of American service members in harm's way, Israeli civilians and soldiers, our partners and friends in the Gulf and all others in the region who have already been targeted. As this situation develops, ADL will continue monitoring any threats by the Iranian regime and its proxies against Jewish communities in the U.S. and around the world.

Today marks 24 years since Jewish American @WSJ journalist Daniel Pearl z”l was brutally murdered on camera after being kidnaped and tortured by Al Qaeda terrorists in Pakistan. His murderers filmed his execution and broadcast it to the world. In his final words, Pearl proudly and defiantly declared his Jewish identity: "My father is Jewish. My mother is Jewish. I am Jewish." The ADL Daniel Pearl Award was established two years later to honor his memory and commitment through his work to build cultural bridges and promote understanding. May Daniel’s memory forever be a blessing.

My heart is heavy thinking about the chaos in Minneapolis and all my friends and partners across Minnesota. The state has endured an unbearable year of violence and loss – from the assassination of State Representative Melissa Hortman and the shooting of Senator John Hoffman in June, to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in August, and the recent shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Enough is enough. This pattern of violence – political assassinations, hate-fueled attacks on houses of worship, fatal encounters with law enforcement – needs to stop. At this point, we don’t need false allegations about domestic terrorism or misplaced Holocaust analogies. All of this reflects a breakdown in how we treat one another and lays bare the deep fractures in our country. We can and must do better. At @ADL we want to see an immediate de-escalation on all sides and a process that provides transparency and accountability. We implore all parties to pursue a path forward that embraces justice over retribution, elevates compassion over fear, and reaffirms our commitment to the belief that every life is sacred.

A historic synagogue in Philly was targeted by arson in October 2024. Khal Chasidim in Arizona was set on fire in March 2025. Now, a devastating arson in Mississippi is the latest in a trend of arsons targeting synagogues and Jewish individuals, including the home of Gov. Shapiro's last Passover. How many more synagogues and Jewish families need to be attacked before these threats are taken more seriously? Last night, we once again witnessed a harrowing testimony from one of the Israeli hostages. Romi Gonen recounted, with incredible heroism, everything she endured in captivity in Gaza, including repeated sexual abuse and death threats. This is not just Romi's story, but a reflection of the horrors faced by those held captive. Despite these testimonies, too many have been silent and have refrained from taking action. It is time to #Believe Israeli and Jewish women and ensure their stories are never forgotten.

The J7 Large Communities' Task Force Against Antisemitism is horrified and heartbroken by the antisemitic terrorist attack targeting innocent Jews and others celebrating the first night of Hanukkah at Bondi Beach in Sydney. This act of evil, which has taken eleven innocent lives and wounded many others, must be condemned by all. We mourn the victims and pray for the full recovery of the injured. This tragedy is especially painful coming less than a week after J7 leaders convened in Sydney for our first-ever summit in Australia. During our visit, we stood in solidarity with the local community as they navigated a sharp rise in antisemitic sentiment and incidents since October 7, 2023. We are devastated and outraged to see those tensions escalate into such lethal violence on Australian soil. We stand in unwavering solidarity with the Australian Jewish community and our J7 partner, @ECAJewry. We support their leadership during this crisis and support them in calling on the Australian Government to take all necessary measures to confront this hatred and ensure the safety of the Jewish community. Antisemitic incidents in Australia have increased nearly fivefold in Australia since 10/7 - a synagogue firebombed, a kosher restaurant vandalized, people harassed in broad daylight. So we cannot look at the devastating and heart-wrenching events of today and say we’re surprised. But yes, we are shocked. Because although the writing was on the wall, the sort of antisemitic terror that occurred in Bondi Beach is so evil, so devastating, so horrifying. And we cannot ignore the emotional trauma on the Jewish community worldwide that comes with each and every attack, even when those attacks have become all too predictable.

We are shocked and devastated by the antisemitic terrorist attack during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where at least 11 people were murdered and many wounded. We mourn the murder of @Chabad emissary Rabbi Eli Schlanger and all victims of this evil and violent act of antisemitism. @ADL is in close contact with the local community, including @ECAJewry, and stands in unwavering solidarity with the Australian Jewish community during this painful time.
