Today, we convened a DREF Imminent Lessons Learned Workshop to reflect on the elections preparedness and response operation funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) @IFRC_DREF The workshop brought together regional teams to review pre-election, during-election, and post-election activities implemented to support safe, well-coordinated, and timely humanitarian readiness during the electoral period. Discussions highlighted the importance of early preparedness planning, pre-positioning of first aid supplies, effective coordination with relevant stakeholders, and strengthened operational readiness across regions. Key lessons emphasized enhancing volunteer safety and welfare, improving real-time information sharing, strengthening branch-level preparedness, and reinforcing Communication in Emergencies (CIE) to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent public messaging throughout the electoral period. The engagement reaffirmed the value of anticipatory action, coordinated response mechanisms, and strong communication systems in supporting humanitarian preparedness during national events, while generating practical recommendations to strengthen future electoral readiness efforts. @IFRCAfrica @ifrc @ICRCUganda

🎯 Day 3 (End of Lessons Learnt Engagement with DREF Operation Teams in Western Uganda) On Day 3, which was also the end of the Lessons Learnt engagement with DREF Operations team, we continued to interact with the dedicated volunteers who played a crucial role in supporting the #DREF operation under the population movement response in Kisoro, Kanungu, Isingiro, and Kikuube districts. The volunteers showcased a wide range of activities they were involved in to ensure the success of the operation. These included: 1️⃣ Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) 2️⃣ Screening at border points 3️⃣ Health education and hygiene promotion across refugee camps and transit centres 4️⃣ Verification of beneficiaries for cash and shelter assistance 5️⃣ Restoring Family Links (RFL) services All participating volunteers had received a comprehensive training package that enabled them to carry out these interventions effectively. ↪️The training covered areas such as Community-Based Surveillance (CBS), Safe and Dignified Burials (SAF), Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), and Risk Communication. Their commitment and efforts have been instrumental in achieving the objectives of the @IFRC_DREF operation, and their experiences provide valuable insights for strengthening future emergency responses. @IFRCAfrica @ifrc @GovUganda @OPMUganda @UNICEFUganda @UNHCRuganda @ICRCUganda

The site comprises 700 houses, and a population of around 4000 people engaged in fishing activities, all faced with life-threatening challenges due to floods.
