If twitter melts down, the alternatives for me right now would be: -reddit (interest-based communities; can follow individual users though it's not much used). -facebook (can post for friends, follow/contact prominent people). What would yours be?

Twitter is a type of "city". People are thinking of migrating away. What location specific social capital have they built up at the Twitter origin? This will be lost if they move to another platform. Or, can this social capital be built up on another destination platform?
