Coaches, what is the highest number of agents to “represent” one recruit? My highest number is 3 different agents repping the same guy!

This has been flying around social media this week. I wasn't there, but I've read content from those who were. My understanding of the rules is that runners are not permitted to celebrate prior to the finish line. The runner had already received a warning in his 300m race. The gesture he made before the finish line in this race was in reference to the team winning its fifth title in a row. He wasn't just raising his hand. I believe the team appealed the decision, which was rejected. These are facts, not opinions, but I'm curious what you all think, especially those of you in track and field.

A High School was ROBBED of a State Championship The Mallard Creek boys track and field team was disqualified for taunting because Ngannou Brown raised his hand before crossing the line to win the 4x400m relay. THIS ISN’T TAUNTING OR UNSPORSTMANLIKE

As someone who ran and coached track for many years in high school and college this always will and always has been a huge no that will land you and your team in serious hot water. This shouldn't be a news story, very normal.

@TuscanyBayBooks @m2kgalaxy @LesBowen @theobserver So why don’t you post on the internet every time a high school basketball player curses on a basketball court and doesn’t get a technical? It happens thousands of times per night during basketball season but no one is on twitter yelling “enForCe tHe rUleS!!”

Either we have rules or we don't. He was warned and broke the same rule again any way. He was correctly DQ'd. It's called consequences. The fact you don't want any accountability for breaking the rules tells me you're a moron. Go be stupid somewhere else on the Internet. Bye.

I’ve posted links to @theobserver ‘s strong coverage of the high school track disqualification story. It’s interesting how many people in my mentions seem incredibly invested in meet officials’ version of events. Like it’s personally important to them that the winners remain dq’d

@delrioguy1 @rockchalk_fans @NCHSAA 3rd base ump? Usually there are only 2 umpires in any game where they are asking random people with no experience to be an umpire. Less officials is better than having corrupt/bad officials. There were plenty of officials willing to do the state championship. She won’t be missed

@07SecondsOrLess @rockchalk_fans @NCHSAA YES! That will certainly motivate people to volunteer to be refs. I have coached baseball, volleyball and football for many years i was asked to be third base ump once. The parents were so fucking stupid that I told them to shut up. Never umped again.

Over the past several days, the conclusion of the 8A Men’s Track and Field Championship has generated significant discussion across North Carolina and beyond. The NCHSAA recognizes and understands there is deep disappointment experienced by the student-athletes, coaches, and the school community involved. As previously stated, officiating decisions made during competition are judgment calls administered by certified meet officials under NFHS playing rules and NCHSAA rules relative to unsporting behavior and actions, and are considered final decisions. The Association appreciates the efforts of the officials who are tasked with applying and enforcing those rules during our championship events. Under state law, an aggrieved party may challenge the decision of an official that results in disqualification by appealing to an independent appeals board appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. This process is intended to provide a fair opportunity for a thorough review of the officiating decision. Following the established appeals process outlined in the NCHSAA Handbook and state procedures, Mallard Creek High School has exercised its right to such an appeal through the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Appeals Board administered by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The NCHSAA respects the right of member schools to utilize that process and appreciates the importance of ensuring all concerns are heard through the appropriate review structure. Because that process is underway, the NCHSAA will not provide further public comment regarding the specifics of the matter.

@NickStevensHS Do you know how many officials hate specific teams/coaches/players? I know officials who have made calls or refused to make calls just to spite a specific team/coach/player

I also don’t think we have to make personal attacks against the official who made the call in the track meet in order to disagree with the decision. I don’t know the official. And I don’t think anyone gets into HS officiating to take something away from athletes. The money isn’t worth that. I disagree with the decision, but some of the comments I’ve seen on here about the official cross a different line.

If it’s an official rule and it clearly states this Under NFHS Rule 4-6 (unsportsmanlike conduct) & it says STRICT GUIDELINES. Celebration before crossing the line is prohibited. Celebrating before crossing the line is what got the team DQ…..
John Christopher@Christ15796John

@milesjordan40 He raised his hand and turned it backwards for the last 50 feet. Clearly taunting and against the rule. It was giving Angel Reese.

@PosterShit83624 @dawsonjmb It’s the same person. The DQ was because he’s previously been warned and then, as confirmed by his own coach, broke a rule by celebrating before the finish line.

@07SecondsOrLess @NickStevensHS I swam and my relay team was once disqualified for one of the team jumping in the pool in excitement when we won but not all the other teams had finished. Sucked. but it's the rules. My team broke that rule. This also was way more than just lifting his arms in excitement.

This could actually be quite a moment for NC high school sports. This appeals process was setup a few years ago through a new law passed by the state legislature. To my knowledge, this type of appeal hasn’t happened before (it’s possible it just never became public). Having officials calls overturned after the fact by an appeals board would be something new. And you have to believe it would lead to more. This whole situation is just not great for anyone and HS sports as a whole. It was a bad DQ. It’s led to horrible discourse. It’s overshadowed the accomplishments of the athletes & teams participating in the event. And it could have long-term ramifications.

UPDATE: Mallard Creek has filed an official appeal to get its track DQ overturned. If successful, the Mavericks could be declared state champions. @07SecondsOrLess @rockchalk_fans @NCHSAA Be that as it may, if a warning was given then that smashes the whole “there was no warning given first” argument first given. Now I am seeing a conspiracy rant about one official previously working at the new winning school. Come on.

@Christ15796John @NickStevensHS You can admit it was you who jumped into the pool John. This is a safe space. I never said he just lifted his arms in excitement. I said I didn’t think it was unsportsmanlike behavior. A judgment call like this should be more definitive

@Christ15796John @NickStevensHS It was over-officiating. We have a different definition of what crosses the line as unsportsmanlike behavior. I hope your life is fun and no one tells you to stop celebrating your accomplishments or showing emotion when you are happy

@Christ15796John @NickStevensHS He supposedly got warned in a prior race for doing non-taunting actions after finishing the 300M hurdles so how do you know the corrupt black female official wouldn’t have DQ’d him if he did it after the finish line?

@07SecondsOrLess @NickStevensHS This was a race not a game. He could have waited until he finished running to showboat and display his hands with the rings. He purposely choose to do it 30 feet from the finish line. He even raised his hand high so the other runners would see. It's definition taunting.

@delrioguy1 @rockchalk_fans @NCHSAA The warning was smaller than an ant. The warning should have never been given. Just because it’s a non-contact sport, that doesn’t mean we need to prevent these athletes from showing emotion. Maybe more people would care about track if this dumb culture changed
