Worst news ever guys. The machines have increased the capacity to get shit done by a hundred times. Now, people who are actually doing things can do things more. For us non doers of things, we are losing our only excuse for our inaction. Quick, get the molotov cocktails!

🧘‍♀️ On-demand productivity switcher Ask build-macos-apps to build a menu bar productivity switcher where one click or shortcut switches between presets like deep work, async triage, and break mode. Each preset should bundle lightweight actions like focus mode, a timer, and defaults, keep state across launches, and make the active mode obvious.

3 ideas you can build with the macOS apps plugin in Codex: 👾 Menu bar game Use build-macos-apps to build a menu bar Tetris. Clicking the menu bar icon should start a game instantly. Make it fully keyboard-playable, add shortcuts to restart & keep the full playfield visible.

@levelsio you just have to setup your environment (consciously) so you don't crave it nor act on it (unconsciously)

Relatedly I don't think you can quit a bad habit without replacing it with a good one Like if you don't wanna eat candy, eat so much healthy food that you won't be hungry for candy ever Or if you quit smoking and alcohol, become obsessed with coffee which is a healthy addiction
taoki@justalexoki

the best thing you can do for quitting bad habits is to stop thinking of it as a sacrifice. you're not giving up gooning, you're making space for what you actually want to do. you're not "giving up snacks", you're actively losing weight. feeling hungry should feel GOOD, and this is entirely psychological

Exploring random topics, driven by your own curiosity, is the most valuable form of learning. This is where the real outlier ideas come from. Whereas running a startup is the intellectual equivalent of being dragged by a horse.

This year, I wish you less — less information, less food, less entertainment, less communication, less stimulation. You already have too much of all that, and it stands in the way of your serenity, health, sleep, and creativity. Merry Christmas! ☦️

New guy at work (recent CS grad) doesn’t test anything he builds AT ALL - Tells me it’s done - I try it and it fails - Show him the error - Tells me “oh didn’t think about that” Do people not check their work these days?? There are art history students more capable than this.
