🇯🇵 Takaichi flew 6,000 miles to be humiliated. Pearl Harbor brought up. Lunch canceled. No joint statement. She went to Washington to explain Japan's limits. Trump spent the meeting mocking them. 82% of Japanese oppose this war. She ignored them. 11,000 protested in Tokyo. She flew anyway. Now she's signing $40 billion nuclear deals. Tying Japan closer to an empire that just insulted its history. Takaichi bowed. Trump laughed. Japan paid. Call it diplomacy. The rest of us call it submission.

@MichaelFKane My FIL at 98 was being given a cognitive test. The doc said when you go shopping I want you to buy milk sugar and eggs and I will ask you what you have bought. My FIL reply’s ’I don’t go shopping someone else does’! We couldn’t stop laughing and the doc was speechless!

My grandfather is entering the final days of his life. He's 95 and he's ready to go home to his maker. But I thought I would tell a funny story. My mother and grandmother and I spent last night at the ER with him. About midnight the overnight hospitalist (doctor that treats patients while they are in the hospital) comes into the room. Talks to my grandmother and I for a few minutes and then begins to do a basic cognitive test on my grandfather. He starts with a simple question. "Can you tell me your name?" Now my grandfather (whose name is John) has slowed with age, but until the last few days has remained sharp, and if he has enough energy, a joker as well. He looks at the doctor, and while the confusion of his current ailment slowed his response, he eventually manages to confidently say "Juan." The doctor looks at him, then glances at my grandmother and I to see that we are laughing, before deciding that, yes, my grandfather despite his struggles managed to make a joke out of the test. He laughs. "Well I admit I was expecting a Juan to look at a little more Mexican." (My grandfather is the source of the red hair in my family and couldn't possibly look any less like a Juan) Long pause from my grandfather as he processes that. "Si." The doctor proceeded to casually call him Juan the rest of the night. A day later the decline has worsened and the end has drawn near. I passed by the doctor in the hall on the way into the ICU, had a quick chat with him about my grandfather, and then he told me that he'd never forget the 95 year old red head claiming he was Juan during a cognitive test. May we all manage to be so memorable in our last days. 😅

The 5,000 solar systems donated to Cuba by China are being installed across the country. Cuban people are now suffering the US’s brutal energy blockade. You can’t block the Sun.

In 1607, a girl was born in Cologne with the kind of mind that did not fit the mold laid out for her. Her name was Anna van Schurman. And the path expected of her was a narrow one. Stay quiet. Marry well. Keep your thoughts to yourself. She didn’t. By the time she was three, Anna was reading. By eleven, she was quoting Seneca in Latin. That was just the start. She went on to learn Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Arabic. She studied philosophy, astronomy, theology, and law. She painted with the skill of a master. Wrote poetry. Carved cameos. There wasn’t a subject she didn’t try to master. And when her family moved to Utrecht, the university took notice. But there was a problem. Women weren’t allowed in. So they made a compromise. She could attend, but only if she sat behind a curtain. Out of sight. The professors were worried the boys might get distracted by a girl with books. Anna agreed. She sat in silence. Took it all in. Then wrote a dissertation in flawless Latin arguing that women had the same intellectual capacity as men and should be educated in the same way. It landed like a thunderclap. Philosophers read it. Clerics debated it. Even Descartes paid attention. She became known as the Star of Utrecht. She published essays. Sent letters across Europe. Joined the conversation normally reserved for men with titles and power. And she did it all without raising her voice. Later in life, she walked away from the fame. She joined a religious group that treated women as equals. Critics called her foolish. She called it freedom. She didn’t start a revolution. She didn’t lead a protest. But her words did something else. They stayed. Anna van Schurman lit a fire with ink and parchment. And centuries later, it’s still burning. #archaeohistories

It’s absolutely stunning to be required to live in a world ATM where the media is far, far more outraged over Middle Eastern oil and gas plants being bombed than they ever were over tens of thousands of Palestinian children being slaughtered … #NewsCorpse

When the Japanese live translation goes silent because the translators are too stunned to repeat your Pearl Harbor “joke” to the Japanese PM, you’ve officially reached a new level of diplomatic failure. Those seconds of silence were the most honest reaction of the day.

🔥 Pauline Hanson under fire after clashing with journos and dodging questions on “policy costings.” Apparently these are “stupid” questions…so punts to her SA colleagues and tries to escape. Counting and numbers… clearly not her thing. #auspol

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's reaction as Trump says "Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Habour?" Undoubtedly the worst American diplomatic gaffe in post-war US-Japan history.

🇲🇽🇨🇺 BREAKING: Mexico will send oil to Cuba. Trump's blockade has fallen. 60 years of embargo. 60 years of trying to starve an island. Now Mexico breaks the siege. Oil shipments. Solidarity. Sovereignty. The US can sanction. Can threaten. Can block. But neighbors help. Neighbors deliver. Neighbors don't forget. Cuba has been alone too long. Mexico just changed that. The blockade isn't gone. But it's cracked. And cracks spread. Mexico sends oil. The world watches. The empire fumes. Solidarity wins. Every time.
