Every aspect of this is outrageous. It took only 15 days after the death of George Floyd for Keir Starmer to ‘take the knee’. It’s been 174 days since Henry Nowak was murdered and I’ve not seen any politician except Robert Jenrick mention it at all. mol.im/a/15849219

GBNews reports that a whopping 1,000 illegal migrants have arrived on small boats over the bank holiday weekend. What happened to the one-in-one-out plan? We’re paying France £660m to supposedly prevent this. 1,000 more mouths to feed and strain our public services. A joke.

In Japan, you sit down at almost any restaurant. Before you order. Before you've said a word. The server brings: a glass of ice water, a hot wet towel rolled up like a present, sometimes a small dish of pickles or edamame. You haven't paid for any of it. You don't tip for any of it. The towel is hot in winter. Cold in summer. Always exactly when you needed it. Not because someone is hoping for a tip. Because the country decided long ago that being a guest should start with comfort, not negotiation. Think about the last time a restaurant gave you something just because they were happy you came. In Japan, that's not a gesture. That's the opening line.

🚨Keir Starmer suddenly refers teenage rapists’ soft sentences to the Court of Appeal after massive backlash. Too little too late for the two girls whose lives were destroyed. Labour’s failing justice system exposed again.

🌺🇬🇧 We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Gilbert Clarke — Second World War veteran, RAF Leading Aircraftman and proud member of the Windrush generation — at the age of 100. Born in Jamaica, Gilbert volunteered to serve in the Royal Air Force during the war, travelling across the Atlantic in 1944 to support the Allied effort at a pivotal moment in history. Working on radar and radio systems, he played an important role in supporting military aircraft operations during the liberation of Europe. Throughout his later years, Gilbert remained committed to remembrance, helping ensure the contribution of Caribbean servicemen and women during wartime would never be overlooked or forgotten. His story is a powerful reminder that the defence of Britain was built on service, sacrifice and unity across nations and communities. Rest in peace, Gilbert. Thank you for your service and for sharing your story with future generations. 🌺🕯️🕊️ mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/g…

"When I'm Cleaning Windows" and "Leaning on a Lamp-post," started out life on this day in 1904: When George Formby OBE (born George Hoy Booth) was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England. He was the eldest of seven surviving children of music hall star George Formby Sr (born James Lawler Booth) and Eliza Hoy. His father, a hugely popular comedian and singer known for characters like "John Willie," performed under the Formby name (which the son later adopted). Formby had an unconventional start: born blind due to an obstructive caul, his sight was restored shortly after birth during a coughing fit. Removed from school at a young age, he worked as a stable boy and jockey from age seven, racing professionally (though without major wins) in England and Ireland. After his father’s death from a bronchial condition in 1921, the 16-year-old turned to the stage, initially copying his father’s act as “George Hoy.” Early performances were rough, but in 1923 he bought a ukulele (often a banjolele), introduced it to his performances, and married Beryl Ingham; a champion clog dancer who became his manager and transformed his career. She refined his stage presence (formal dress), material, and ukulele skills. From the mid-1920s, Formby built success in music halls, recordings (over 200 songs), pantomime, and especially films from 1934 onward (Boots! Boots!, No Limit, Keep Your Seats Please, etc.). He portrayed good-natured, accident-prone Lancastrian “little men” who triumphed through innocence and pluck, often winning a middle-class girl while singing comic songs. He became Britain’s highest-paid entertainer in the 1930s–1940s, famous for his syncopated ukulele playing and light-hearted songs packed with double entendres (e.g., “When I’m Cleaning Windows,” which the BBC banned for innuendo). His delivery was delivered with a toothy grin and childlike charm, making the cheeky content harmless and hugely popular. During WWII, he entertained extensively for ENSA, performing for millions of troops and civilians. Post-war, his film career slowed, but he continued in variety, pantomime, and tours. Formby died on the 6th March 1961 in Preston at age 56 after a heart attack, shortly after Beryl’s death. He was buried in Warrington Cemetery. His influence lived on; impacting comedians like Norman Wisdom and even the Beatles. He embodied cheerful Lancashire working-class spirit with national appeal. Public sculptures and biographies keep his memory alive.
