When you realize you’re the subject of a @sytaylor Taylor post, you know you made it! But he mentioned something about @blupryntco's extraordinary cap table that I’m particularly proud of. I actually pitched to very, very few people. It’s not that I was picky per se, but I wanted to take my time to identify a coalition to build the right way. Your cap table is a long-term governance and trust decision dressed up as a financing event. So I really took my time. Not pitching, but thinking about whom to pitch and making sure I did it at the right time. But patience worked. Between pre-seed and seed, along with first-tier VCs, we’ve been fortunate to assemble, objectively, one of the finest cap tables of any early stage compliance tech firm, anywhere. Even I'm kind of shocked: Dan Schulman (former CEO, @PayPal; current CEO, @Verizon ) Edward Wible (cofounder, @nubank ) Jeremy M. Kroll (cofounder, K2 Integrity) Jules B. Kroll (founder, Kroll Inc., KBRA, K2, and more) @mcuban Ricardo Marino (Vice Chairman of Itaú Unibanco) @giancarloMKTS (former Chairman, CFTC) Jelena McWilliams (former Chair, FDIC) + a former Acting Chairman of the SEC I can’t name (for reasons that will be obvious to anyone who knows Biglaw) It's an incredible blessing. And beyond the investors, being able to talk without filters with operators like Johann Kerbrat and Daniel Gallagher at @RobinhoodApp sending or getting the occasional text from Paul @iampaulgrewal as he steers @coinbase insight and encouragement that even for this law professor is impossible to properly put into words. The founder lesson (simple, but I know, not easy): Take your time building your cap table—especially early. Because a cap table isn’t just funding. It’s: *Signal (who vouches for you when you’re not in the room) *Judgment (how decisions get made when things get spicy) *Durability (who stays constructive when the market isn’t) So yes, optimize for runway—but also for who you’ll want on the call when things take a bit longer (super important for someone building real, can't miss infrastructure), or when things take a crazy turn (which will always be the case in emerging technologies). So if you’re raising right now, and yes, even in this environment: beyond the logos, or even the names, use the round to build your board-of-the-actually-helpful, and who are committed to your vision.
