My 95 year old grandmother pays $2000 in property taxes & another $3000 in school taxes every single year on a house that was built in 1850 that is falling apart. She was widowed in 1973 & as a single mother of 6 worked everyday of her life until she was in her mid 70s. She gets $10,000 a year from the federal government to live on, but once you subtract $5000 in taxes she is left with $5000 for the rest of the year to buy food, supplies & bills. Are people really this uneducated on this issue? Oh my god.

This is shocking to man-babies like yourself, but that's exactly what the Boomers and Gen X did. But you call it gentrification and racism when it was them buying dilapidated homes in the ghetto on the cheap, fixing them, and then having a nice home. As others followed, the ghetto neighborhood morphed into the nice one that you can't afford. You're too big of a loser to do anything like that.

High interest rates in the 80s.
Recessions. Hard times.
I hear you.
But you also had:
Pensions that actually paid out.
College tuition you could cover with a summer job.
Houses that cost 3x your salary not 15x.
Healthcare that didn’t bankrupt you.
One income that could support a family.
A job market that rewarded loyalty with stability.
We’re not saying you didn’t struggle.
We’re saying you struggled and still landed somewhere.
We’re struggling and the landing keeps getting further away.
That’s the difference.
And no amount of avocado toast jokes changes the math.

Call me a communist but I think if two of these are established facts:
- BC has enough legal and administrative power to enforce rent control
- BC’s rents are too high
Why don’t we then use that power to freeze all rent or even force something like 2% rent decrease each year

I am so, so grateful that in BC rent can only go up a couple percent per year for the same lease. It is the only thing keeping tens of thousands of people here. It's a privilege many places don't have and I am deeply suspicious of anyone who says rent control is a bad policy.

The Canadian system is broken but nobody is going to fix it. Western Canadians have wasted their time trying and now what's left for us to do is remove ourselves from it to become our own independent nation and fix our own province safe from the grubby, sticky fingers of Ottawa.

This Pearson investigation just crossed into genuinely disturbing territory. A former RCMP investigator says employees flagged over alleged organized crime concerns were still able to keep restricted airport access passes. That is an unbelievable allegation.
