@JBPritzker You’re not supposed to try and survive on the minimum. Those are entry level jobs for high school students. You’re supposed to take the skills from that entry job and get something better that pays better.

$7.25 an hour is about $14,000 a year. No one can survive on that. People can barely survive on double that. We raised the minimum wage in Illinois. It's long overdue everywhere else.

The pattern is unmistakable and repulsive. If you keep calling Black leaders "low IQ," you aren't expressing a political disagreement. You are using a racist dog whistle to undermine their humanity. Every single time Donald Trump uses this slur, he shows the country that his politics are built entirely on grievance and bigotry. It’s a disgrace to the office and a stain on this country.

Unpopular opinion but the right to vote shouldn’t be automatic. It should require passing a basic test on economics, finance, history, and how laws and public policy actually work… Pass it, you vote. Fail it, you don’t.

@PaulNiland He does. We tried to use our bases for Iran and were denied. So now we play political games to get what we want. Trump threatens extremes to get the incremental change he wants. This isn’t hard to understand. He literally wrote a book about his strategy.

Something a lot of people don't see. Trump thinks US troops in Germany are there to protect Germany. They're not. They're there because the US needs the bases to be able to carry out US operations beyond the north American continent. Trump doesn't understand this basic fact.

Using the Pentagon podium to lash out at journalists in extreme biblical terms is unprecedented, misguided, and frankly wrong on the substance. Ever since Sunday School Catholic classes, I have been well aware of the Scribes and the Pharisees. They were the bad guys against Jesus, the good guy… in current U.S. good v evil war parlance. Bearing witness to the truth is what we journalists are commanded to do, without fear nor favor. I am also well aware of the Ten Commandments, and therefore urge any government radical anywhere, to follow the 9th… against bearing false witness. And finally an observation: the current Secretary of War, f/k/a Defence, left the military with the rank of Major. I recall my dogtag in the first Gulf war had the rank of major... the very same rank. Just sayin’!
