Another busy week for IFALPA at @icao. Our reps are helping to shape global rules on pilot training, dangerous goods, aerodrome minima & GNSS security. Critical topics in aviation safety, ensuring pilots’ voices influence decisions that keep the skies safe worldwide. #pilots

While the „jump“ or observer seat on the flight deck lacks comfort on long days,it offers its occupant a unique vantage point and sometimes very nice views, while the two pilots are busy. Germany‘s highest mountain Zugspitze behind Munich under fog, the Olympic tower peaking out.

@Skycrazy9 @airmainengineer Play, when T/R is opened after at wheel touchdown. It activates the spoiler and with the loss of lift, the aircraft „falls“ onto the front axle.

@Skycrazy9 @airmainengineer This is the only correct answer (which is true for the A340, too). The bogey is tilted with a massive force, lifting the fuselage during takeoff and landing, when the is a certain amount of lift a couple me centimeters to prevent tailstrikes. The harder landings part comes into.

Why does the A330 always seem to land so smoothly ? I’ve always wondered why the A330 seems to have smoother landings compared to aircraft like the A350 or B787. After taking a closer look, I thought it might be due to the landing gear high angle making the touchdown softer almost like kissing the ground. Does anyone know the real reason? 📸 by reddit/Maruan-007 Not an ad

@Subflyer We never get to operate in FRA (Free Route Airspace) in Europe. I assume this is because CPDLC (VHF) is required above FL285? Just not something we have. Few Narrowbodies not operating in Europe are equipped.

“Europe’s system is better than ours” Depends what metrics you’re using. ATC technology? Yes - I believe their tech is better than ours for the most part, but their airspace is far more congested and complex. Off-airway operations are virtually non-existent and direct routings rare. Slots are strict and dynamic re-routing is tough. Holding happens far more frequently than in the US. Their ATC system is also far more expensive to operate in for carriers and private operators, mostly to shoulder the increased cost of ATC services and regulatory staff. The US has the greatest and most accessible General Aviation (small private aircraft) system in the world and for good reason. It’s cheaper, simpler, and far more efficient. As far as regulators go, EASA is a complete bureaucratic mess. Death by a gazillion paper-cuts. The laws are complicated and strict, and the costs are extremely high. The majority of continuing airworthiness regulatory oversight is farmed out to private businesses (CAMOs). While improvements to the FAA & US airspace system are welcome, they can’t and won’t happen rapidly. The whole idea that US Aviation is inferior, far behind, and/or lacking in safety and efficiency when compared to other countries is just patently false.

Let’s not get over-excited. Yes, we need help. No, can’t be done in a year. We do have some new tech, like Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC). It’s not in use everywhere yet. The FAA NextGen project has moved pretty slowly. Europe’s system is better than ours.

Same place. Three years later. By the way, that aircraft used to be D-ABGG and I sat on its F/O seat for airberlin nearly 18 years ago. Time flies… (pun intended)

Airframe icing is for life, not just for Christmas. It's a perennial hazard to aircraft. What systems are in place to prevent or remove the build up of ice from an aircraft's surfaces? Our latest explainer takes a look. flightradar24.com/blog/aircraft-…

Unmut! Was ich eher nicht brauche, eine Wettervorhersage, die mir das Wetter sagt, das gerade ist. Sehe ich selber. Ein paar Pflanzen konnte ich vor den 1,5cm Hagelkörnern noch retten. @wettercom absolut unbrauchbar! [x] deinstalliert RIP selbstgezogenes Blumenrohr (Canna) :(
