Great athletes don't talk about how great they are. They just show up, work hard, and remain humble.

Don’t give up just because it got difficult. Don’t give up just because you had a setback. Don’t give up just because you got off the path. Don’t give up just because you have doubts. Don’t give up just because they don’t believe. Keep going. Keep fighting. Keep moving forward.

I don’t talk much about my sobriety, because it wasn’t supposed to be a thing. I mean, I didn’t think I had an addiction. Then it hit me. It doesn’t have to be an addiction to be a problem. I haven’t drank since Sept 9, 2022, but I made no announcements the day I stopped drinking. Maybe, that was to escape accountability. I’ve thought of taking a sip since, but it always comes back to, “what good has it ever done?”. So, here we are 3 years, 8 months later, & life is better. I am better! #MentalHealthAwareness #Sobriety #Addiction

3 questions I ask myself every Saturday: 1. Did I move the needle this week, or just stay busy? 2. What did I learn that I didn't know Monday? 3. What would I do differently if I could run the week again? Weekly reflection is the compound interest of self-improvement. Answer one of them below. Let's think together. 👇

The key to getting better at basketball is playing, getting some good quality runs in, and working on building good habits.

Sports don’t just end athletic careers. They end identities for a lot of athletes. The years of structure, pressure & validation vanish overnight. If we only build performance, we miss the bigger job: building people who still know who they are after the game ends for themselves.

Boys aren’t jumping fences, riding bikes for miles, running from dogs, and jumping up and down cars all day while hooping multiple times per day either. All that landing, running, changing direction was building strength. As a kid, I didn’t even know what sore really was.

Athletes aren’t developing their calf and quads like they used to back in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s! Blame the Training staffs at the highest levels for not understanding Simple Sports Performance Training! ESPECIALLY Basketball Trainers in the Culture…all those fancy new movements and guys are tearing joints I never knew existed! 🤦🏽‍♂️

There's one stat that will never show up in the box score: trust. The best teams I've coached had players who trusted each other completely, on defense, on offense, in every situation. Trust is built in practice, strengthened in adversity, and makes champions when it matters most.

Today’s kids are soft because of my generation. We taught them how to quit the second things get hard, how to demand a manager, how to run to school boards when their kid doesn’t get playing time, how to micromanage every aspect of their lives, and how to act like the world owes them something. Instead of teaching resilience, accountability, and independence, too many parents set their kids up to fail.

Exact same thing for soccer, (not that there ever was a huge street soccer culture here). Point is, there needs to be. Also, yes, the pendulum has swung to where you're a bad parent if you don't get to every practice and game. Problem is, kids literally get zero time without their parent seeing everything they do They need time where they know Mom and Dad aren't watching their every interaction

Basketball Twitter constantly complains that kids aren’t outside on the playground grinding anymore. Want to know why? Because half these same parents won’t even let their kid walk down the street by themselves anymore. So instead of pickup games at the park, it’s phones, video games, and sitting inside. We killed independence and then act shocked kids don’t act independent. I suggested maybe parents don’t need to attend every single AAU game either - sit in the car, grab a coffee, let the kid breathe for two hours - and check out the comments. People acted like I suggested abandoning children in the wilderness. Meanwhile we used to disappear for entire summers playing basketball at the park until the street lights came on. These kids are toast, man.
