🇮🇱🇺🇸 60% of Americans now view Israel negatively. The number was 40% four years ago.
Pew's latest poll tells the story of a relationship in freefall.
80% of Democrats and 41% of Republicans see Israel unfavorably.
Among Americans under 50, the numbers are even worse: 84% of Democrats and 57% of Republicans.
Only 27% have confidence in Netanyahu to do the right thing regarding world affairs.
And this survey was conducted in late March, before the ceasefire drama, before Netanyahu refused to include Lebanon, before Israel killed the negotiator brokering peace with Vance, and before the Knesset popped champagne over a death penalty law that only applies to Palestinians.
It's almost like occupying Gaza indefinitely, expanding into southern Lebanon, bombing through every ceasefire, assassinating negotiators your own ally identified as peace partners, and passing laws that treat one population differently than another has consequences for how the world sees you.
Israel's strongest asset has always been American public support.
That support is eroding across every age group, both parties, and nearly every religious denomination except White evangelicals.
When 57% of young Republicans view Israel unfavorably, the bipartisan consensus that has protected Israel for decades is ending.
So, how will Israel respond?

🚨🇮🇱 Four hours after the ceasefire announcement, Netanyahu's office issues a statement in English only, welcoming the pause on Iran but explicitly stating "the two-week ceasefire does not include Lebanon." Pakistan's PM Sharif announced the ceasefire was "everywhere including Lebanon." Netanyahu waited four hours and then contradicted him. This tells you everything. The Iran war might be pausing, but Israel has no intention of stopping its expansion into southern Lebanon. Netanyahu already ordered the security zone expanded, his defense minister claimed 10% of the country permanently, and his finance minister said Israel's border should be the Litani River. Israel wants to keep bombing Lebanon while the world celebrates peace. And they released the statement only in English, which suggests it was aimed at Washington, or more specifically Trump, and the international press, not Israelis. The war with Iran may be on pause, but Israel's war for regional hegemony is just getting started.

Russia and China vetoed a resolution proposed by Bahrain and the Gulf states at the UN Security Council condemning Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz, and that the Iranian regime’s actions constituted a threat to international peace and security.
Even if the resolution did not pass, the broad majority of nations in favor of this resolution reflect the commitment of most countries in the world to protect freedom of navigation.
Those who threaten the Strait of Hormuz threaten the entire global economy. Iran is trying to turn an international shipping lane into a tool of blackmail.
It’s time to stop the pirates from Tehran.

It is unfortunate that the UN Security Council has once again failed to demonstrate effectiveness and act decisively in the face of such a global threat as the Iranian regime's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
No one should be allowed to block such globally significant sea lanes or undermine the security of dozens of nations through terrorist attacks against the freedom of navigation.
We faced a similar challenge in the Black Sea when the Russians attempted to block our ports and civilian shipping—Russia was trying to suffocate our economy. And we found a way to solve that problem through decisive action, not inaction.
Now, we see a similar problem on a global scale. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to all vessels that sustain vital economy lifelines and maintain normal international trade.
Countries in the region have spoken clearly on this, and we support the aspirations of the people of the Middle East and the Gulf for peace.
Peace and security in this region directly impact stability, market predictability, and the cost of living in every single country.
Such problems and this war must not be prolonged. The world needs a functional UNSC that acts more decisively to resolve acute security challenges of global magnitude.
