some truths: - sloths are cool - it's always the cyclist's fault - we are all replaceable and will be - the front facing camera was the downfall of society

@brianmccallum @aphysicist About 12 ft. Probably need to get consumers put for more power though. I'm just surprised we're still talking with the $27 offer on the table. To be clear there were no zeros.

@3sloth3 @aphysicist What's the vertical clearance of a pole barn?

We
– design the chips & hardware
– make the cars w/ said hardware
– collect real-world data at scale
– train the real-world AI model
– built (& continue to expand) the massive supercomputer cluster that trains it
– deploy AI directly to millions of robots on wheels
All that is shared with @Tesla_Optimus for broader applications in both the physical & digital world

@aphysicist I'll sell him our machine for an even million.
It's a good deal. He should just write me a check now.

Used to live there. Watched a tire come flying off a car in the other lane on the southfield freeway. Everyone on my side was able to speed up and slow down to avoid it as it bounced against the flow of traffic. I mean it was bouncing at least twenty feet in the air. 3 lanes densely packed. You just get used to shit like that.
English

@3sloth3 @AlaskanTom Hmmm interesting points. You might not be wrong, actually.

@kylaschwaberow @moregainzs @Tesla I browse x while it drives me to work. Not sure when it started letting the browser be active while fsd is doing its thing but it's nice.
English

@moregainzs @Tesla No that’s what you do lol.
I’m relaxing, enjoying the ride while my mind is free to think of more important things.

Detroit drivers are actually pretty good. It doesn't look like it because of the high speed and reckless weaving in and out of traffic on the highways but you can tell because there should be way more accidents. There also would be a lot more burned up cars left for dead on the highway because city services really only picks up things like that when they get around to it.
English

@AlaskanTom Detroit and New Jersey are conspicuous in that map.
English

@srsattern Well if this isn't a story to gain an instant follow without the need to read through any other post I don't know what is.
Why can I never see these things happen irl?

“I love your pendant, what tribe is that?”
“Choctaw Nation, thank you.”
“Where is that at?”
“Oklahoma”
“It’s really good to see the culture coming back- ”
“I mean, it ain’t never left.”
“Oh, of course! You know, can you believe all the stuff in MN?”
“I know, right? It’s like they can’t deport them fast enough… I honestly wish they would just cut us wagon burners loose on them… do you like effigy mounds?”

Literally one of my favorite pass times. Never gets old.

You'll still have to have matter so you'll be moving chunks of rock close together or mining gas giants. By the you'll probably be able to teansmute matter somewhat efficiently. It becomes much easier if gravity is something that can be controlled rather than a natural force. You won't need as much mass so you'd probably build something like a platform or ring. Since energy is abundant you'd build your own sun. Then your platform and sun could be moved anywhere you like. This gets even crazier when you consider how to keep an atmosphere without building a sealed container...but if energy is solved and gravity is controlled then it doesn't matter much.

I have one I use for woodworking at home...not nearly enough. I plan on growing that but I needed employment while I build a client base so I got a job at a local shop doing cnc work. I built the one for my home partly from a kit, but cobbled the electronics together myself which was the best way for me to learn.
There are so many bench top mills that are under $1000 that you can start with right away. They won't hold high tolerances, but you'll learn the cad/cam part of it much better than just the basics and when you inevitably crash it you won't cry too much because you just broke an expensive tool or worse.
Up until this point I had planned on just doing woodwork. Now that I've had a chance to work with these larger cnc machines I have changed what I believe I can do at home in the garage shop. I didn't plan this transition at all. I just saw my days in IT were finite and started buying tools. If I were to do it over I would have first looked for a customer or part that I can easily produce and have some income from rather than just blindly buying things I thought were cool.
Get a small bench top machine and just make stuff you need for home first and see how you like it.
English

Do you own a business running the CNC machines? Looks like starting small and building it up to a business might be a good idea; lots of little manufacturing seems to be a good business. Been thinking of it, but honestly don’t know enough about CNC work (I know the basics and what it is supposed to be — just not a lot of experience in it).

Good Morning X-Verse!
For all of my life I have sat at a desk, worked with my brain to solve problems, often engineering problems but sometimes management problems. I have been doing this for 40 years. I’m a short fat, bald, old man.
About 5 years ago, I moved out to the middle of nowhere in Tennessee. Thanks in part to Covid, work now allows me to work remotely wherever I want to be. I have started living a more modest lifestyle, working on the computers during the day, and out working the land after work and during the weekends.
The physical labor is hard, cutting trees, digging trenches, clearing land and more. My body aches every day, my shoulders, my back, my knees are all crying out in pain every day.
I couldn’t be happier.

@TechOperator When I decided to volunteer for a severance package, I waited until the last day. Logged in, made my choice, then paddled a kayak out to an island. I lay there on my back taking breaths, thinking, “ok, now what?” 8 years ago. It’s been fine.

Day 4: I am free. And while there’s some uncertainty, I know it’s going to be OK.
TechOperator@TechOperator
Going on day 3. Yesterday, I let my team know I was available if they wanted to talk. Leader changes can be difficult. I’ll be honest about my departure and encourage them to work toward financial independence. Financial independence provides an exit ramp, and if you choose to stay, you will never be freer to speak your mind.

@Oahu5nackbar This might be the most ridiculous court case I've ever seen. It's perfect.
English

@Whodatyat @DabsMalone I would have thought the limit was reached but here I am doing nothing.
English

@DabsMalone Since bush jr it’s been a shitshow. The patriot act was the fulcrum of our privacy and in turn the rest of our rights being stripped away.
I don’t want to be political, but I fear it’s necessary.
Chin up though because there’s only so much the people will take.
English

@3sloth3 i will always make wood things 😂
but id have a lot less time to do that 🤔
