That’s simply not true. Here are my colleagues making very persistent trails in 2001, I took the photo from another jet 1000’ feet below, where we weren’t trailing. Fighters don’t use high bypass ration engines, but you will still them contrailing on transit flights, often as 4 aircraft together.
