The city's first Muslim mayor, elected in May 2025, personally presented an official proclamation recognizing Ramadan 2026 as a "blessed month."
The proclamation, shared proudly on the Muslim American Society (MAS) Dallas, stated:
"Thank you to Mayor Amir Omar and the City of Richardson for recognizing the significance of Ramadan and celebrating the diversity that makes our city stronger."
Mayor Omar also proclaimed "Ramadan Mubarak" at events like an interfaith Iftar hosted by the Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) in Richardson, with videos circulating on social media.
MAS is not just any community group- it's a U.S. organization repeatedly documented as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood:
🔺 Founded in 1992 by Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan) members; former MAS Secretary General Shaker Elsayed admitted "Ikhwan members founded MAS" and estimated nearly half its active members were Brotherhood-affiliated.

Just six months ago, in September 2025, ICE detained Marwan Marouf, a top leader at MAS Dallas, due to longstanding federal scrutiny over his family ties (brother-in-law to Bayan Elashi) to the Holy Land Foundation, the largest terrorism-financing conviction in U.S. history, where leaders were found guilty of funneling $12.4 million to Hamas.
Despite this recent federal action targeting the heart of MAS Dallas's leadership and its documented Brotherhood/Hamas-linked history, Muslim Mayor Omar chose to partner with and spotlight the very SAME organization by issuing the proclamation through channels they control and celebrate.
Just four months after Governor Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood (and its affiliates) as foreign terrorist and transnational criminal organizations, banning land purchases, authorizing heightened enforcement, and accusing them of seeking to impose Sharia and "Islam’s mastership of the world."
Meanwhile, Mayor Omar decides to PARTNER with MAS Dallas, a repeatedly documented Brotherhood front, by issuing an official city Ramadan proclamation and letting them celebrate it.
