@mattforney So you want a singular event to be used as an example of a fake conspiratorial plot from the Democratic party, in order to reduce civil liberties and for the psychopathic party leader to gain ultimate power of the government?
Or do you not actually understand what happened?

@Does_not_mattr @ethereanbull @HHorsley Are you trying to prove the point I was making in the comment you replied to, or what?
Ethereum is working just fine - in fact, I gained a new collector this week. The transaction went through perfectly well, and the provenance now lives on-chain.
Bitcoin could never.

Honestly, hearing stories about people who are highly invested in crypto and focused on the space — but own zero bitcoin makes me sad.
There are a growing set of visions for how public blockchains can be applied in the world. Many interesting.
But don’t lose the forest for the trees and forget the incredibly important role of the original.
If you believe in crypto, you should own Bitcoin.

If you're making significant enough changes to a database that you need to migrate users to a new instance, you can't have users segmented and making changes across two different databases.
Then you would have to manage changes across both and somehow merge data from two databases that are different enough to cause the migration in the first place.

@capradavis @devrelius As a rapper and producer who has dealt with IP issues with collaborations, sampling, etc, I absolutely 100% agree on this take.
Story is a huge unlock for music.
I am working on something specifically for this 😉

My background in the music business has led me to empirically know this is false.
Story is an order of magnitude improvement over traditional licensing flow and no one can convince me otherwise.

> i see the point your making and for years i was just as sceptical about this sentiment of BTC
I was bullish in 2012 and for a few years after, until it became clear that the technology was not fit for any purpose.
And then along came the meme of SoV.
> it's very similar to what Peter Schiff was saying for years and the demand/price of BTC just kept increasing
Schiff's bear reasoning is not valid though.
And positive price action doesn't negate a legitimate bear case.
> sure 16 years is nothing compared to gold's track record, but i don't see it as a counter argument to why BTC won't continue to be a SoV in the future
I wasn't using that as an argument against BTC being a long term SoV, but rather as an argument against using gold as an equivalent of SoV... because they are very far from being equal.
If you really want to search for an equivalent digital SoV, you need to look for something that has inherent and tangible value to begin with, just as gold did before it became an investment vehicle.
If we use this same logic, Ethereum would actually be the more equivalent digital gold.
> and just because there may be other cryptocurrencies that have some better use cases than BTC it don't mean that BTC is gonna fade out to irrelevance
I'm not implying that it will become entirely irrelevant. I am implying that once enterprise enter the arena, they will not be buying a digital asset that they can't do anything with.
Especially not when there are other digital assets that they will require as "credits" to use the networks.
> most crypto investors don't know or care jack shit about use cases and it doesn't seem to prevent the financial institutions from continuing to pour in capital primarily into BTC and not other cryptocurrencies
Precisely my point. They don't know shit about the technology - they are buying the meme.
Once blockchains are actually being used for all digital transactions, why would they want to keep BTC, that effectively does nothing?
I think it becomes pretty clear to them at some point.
> it's not simply but primarily because it was the first Blockchain
Is it not? What are the other tangible reasons?
English

i see the point your making and for years i was just as sceptical about this sentiment of BTC
it's very similar to what Peter Schiff was saying for years and the demand/price of BTC just kept increasing
sure 16 years is nothing compared to gold's track record, but i don't see it as a counter argument to why BTC won't continue to be a SoV in the future
we just may be very early into this
at the end of the day i just see trends and patterns which make me believe that BTC is not going anywhere
and just because there may be other cryptocurrencies that have some better use cases than BTC it don't mean that BTC is gonna fade out to irrelevance
it's not simply but primarily because it was the first Blockchain
most crypto investors don't know or care jack shit about use cases

English

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about - BTC as a SoV is a meme.
Comparing it directly to gold as a SoV is naive IMO.
For one, gold has inherent value for many reasons other than simply investment/SoV.
> gold price is not going up because it's being used in production
This is demonstrably false.
There are several industries that use literally thousands of tonnes of gold every year.
In 2024, industrial applications consumed 326 tonnes, while jewellery consumption was 1,877 tonnes.
Central banks were also significant purchasers, adding 1,045 tonnes to global reserves.
In comparison, investment demand was 1,179.5 tonnes.
This means the investment consumption of gold (excluding central banks) was only 26.6% of the total annual demand, with central banks representing another 23.6%.
Combined, non-investment uses (industrial and jewellery) represented 49.8% of gold demand, showing that gold has substantial value beyond just being an investment vehicle.

> People collectively agree that BTC is worth it
Sure, for now... Do I need to bring up tulips??
Gold was valuable for a really long time before we started using it as an investment vehicle, that's kind of the whole reason it became an investment vehicle in the first place.
Even if we had no other use for it today, humans have been using it as an investment vehicle for millennia now.
I think this is really important to keep in mind, since the meme has shown continual preservation over many different civilisations and eras.
Expecting BTC to do the same in 16 years simply because it was the first blockchain, and because others say so, is an astronomical assumption.
Looking at Bitcoin's functionality/value before it became an investment vehicle - if we were to use the analogy that Bitcoin is to Ethereum as MySpace was to Facebook, it would be a massive disservice to MySpace.
English

store of value
people collectively agree that BTC is worth it
like people collectively agree that gold is worth it
gold price is not going up because it's being used in production
it's going up because people collectively agree that it's worth it
like they have been doing it for centuries
BTC is just a digital equivalent
English

A limited supply is only one half of the equation though and doesn't inherently define value.
The other half is demand, and this is where I see people completely overlooking the reality of the situation. Without actual demand, the supply is meaningless.
So the real question is, what drives demand of BTC?
The answer is just one thing - speculation that others will want it.
But what will others want it for? 🤔
>There's not much reason for it to reverse
There are so many reasons for it to reverse - rather the real question is, what are the reasons for it to continue upwards?
There's only one answer and it banks on people believing the meme that "BTC is valuable" for some unknown reason.
English

I'm not sure, but that's the premise
because of limited supply and increasing demand the price should only appreciate
and the fact that major financial institutions are now adding it to their portfolios makes that premise believable imo
also it's not tied to financial performance like company stocks for example so there's not much reason for the trend to reverse
English

@Khalifa_Vis Why are you so sure of that?
What characteristics other than the meme of BTC makes you sure that it will continue to be valuable?
English

@4lteredBeast it can only collapse if Bitcoin collapses which it never will
English

@harpieio Sorry to hear it.
Unfortunately this is the reality of web3 security at this point in time.
The majority of the current user base doesn't see the cost benefit in these kinds of services.
I think it's a case of being too early - these services will be in demand at some point.
