@OKnox So DC taxpayers and billionaire Josh Harris are dropping more than $3B on a new Commanders stadium but Bezos can’t cough up a few million so the local paper can cover the team? Are the Cowboys behind this?

After my experience at the Post, I no longer say "well, the business side knows business." And I'm not a sports reporter. But even so this is baffling to me. How is sports not generating profit for the Post the way it does for, say, the Philly Inquirer?

Also, and this would be a 50 tweet thread if I really let loose: sports matter. They matter more than ever when we can’t seem to figure things out in the traditional civic settings. They provide joy and hope and inspiration, they force conversations.

@AmericanAir I see that you no longer allow AA Advantage members to earn miles on basic economy fares as of today. As a loyal frequent flier that is really frustrating. But the trip I completed on Dec 14 should have been eligible. Why weren’t my miles credited to my account?

@ggwash I love that WMATA does this. I left my full time job in April and could see how my travel habits changed radically from a very standard morning-evening commute on Metro to taking more midday trips by bus and rail all over the city. Almost 1,000 miles on public transit, amazing!

Reading @jonathanalter's book on Jimmy Carter fundamentally changed my view of his presidency. I can’t recommend it enough, especially in this moment.
With one term, Carter altered several aspects of the office that still shape the way it operates today. For one, he elevated his VP in a way that hadn't happened before, consulting Mondale on all major issues and giving him an office inside the West Wing. Carter had been surprised to learn that past VPs had been kept out of the loop before on issues as critical as nuclear arms control.
He disclosed his tax returns, setting a precedent that all others (with the exception of Trump) followed after him.
Carter also proposed and signed into law the Inspector General Act, which brought in first formal office of inspectors general for twelve agencies. It created protections for whistleblowers that still has ramifications today.

WMATA gave initial approval to a massive redesign of bus service & routes. I’ve led town halls & online feedback to improve their initial plans & ensure service in Ward 6. The new routes largely respond to my concerns, but let’s dig in & see where the bus will take you! 🧵 🚌
