🚔 Mario, retired cop here. Just to clarify how this actually works: There are two main reasons we apprehend someone for a mental health assessment. 1. Police believe the person is a threat to themselves or others (based on what we see or reliable info). 2. A Justice of the Peace or Judge issues an order after sworn statements often from family that the person is seriously unwell and/or a danger to themselves or others. In this case he’ll be taken to hospital, assessed by the acute mental health team, and held only if needed. What can feel off is the lack of paperwork at the roadside. Police only need reasonable grounds. They’d have been dispatched or notified about the existing order. It can seem strange, but that’s how the Mental Health Act works to protect people in crisis. It’s far from perfect but that’s all we have.

Ever notice how many dudes in their late 40s and 50s are in amazing shape at the gym? A lot of people assume they are all divorced having a midlife crisis. While this may be true in some scenarios (considering how many marriages end in divorce), I don’t think it’s the whole story. What it really comes down to is having their priorities in check. Family to feed. A wife they don’t want fucking the pool boy. Kids they want to keep up with. Career established. Done chasing bullshit dopamine. They’re not in the gym to impress anyone. They’re in the gym so they’re around to see their grandchildren grow up. Protect what they’ve built. Stay in the fight. Most guys in their 20s train for the mirror. Guys in their 50s train because they have people in their life that need them to be at the top of their game. Which one are you actually doing?
