No. Before negotiating with Alberta the industrial carbon price was set to increase to $170 per tonne by 2030. Alberta’s negotiations reduced it to $130 by 2035, giving industry certainty and saving them $250 billion in compliance costs.
Franco Terrazzano@franco_nomics

Carney: Before negotiating with the Alberta government the industrial carbon tax was $20/tonne. Now, Carney says it will be “six and a half times that price” by 2040. Brace for big industrial carbon tax hikes.

When Alberta stands strong, Ottawa listens. Our province is on track to double our energy production in the coming years, beginning with the pipeline to the West Coast that will move more than 1 million additional barrels of Alberta oil per day to new markets— with construction targets as early as September 2027. We have also successfully pushed back on harmful federal policies by securing an elimination on the oil and gas production cap, stopping net-zero power regulations from being imposed on Alberta, ensuring Alberta companies are no longer censored under "greenwashing" provisions, and reducing severe, planned increases to the Trudeau-era industrial carbon tax. These are big wins for Alberta workers, families, and our economy. See more from today’s announcement: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…

So no need for a referendum. The separatists agree that a general election works for them.
Jeffrey Rath@JeffreyRWRath

@shandro Tyler! We promise we will. The UCP will be an independence party in the next election.

Does this sound like a good deal or extortion? Before Alberta is *allowed* to export it's oil overseas, create thousands of jobs, and billions for the economy, they must first agree to: > increase in industrial carbon tax > net zero targets > methane regulations > Pathways Project or no pipeline "Do as I say or you don't get to make a living." Sounds more like authoritarianism than cooperative federalism.

There is no comparison between the Quebec and Alberta separation movements. Quebec separation is based on being a distinct society and culture. Alberta separation is based on money and the perception of some of being wronged.

Good morning. Quick update: the courts took one look at that referendum push and said “no thanks.” Petition denied. Game over before it even started. Turns out you don’t just get to break up a country because you’re in a mood. There are rules. There are laws. And they apply to everyone. All that talk, all that buildup, and it didn’t even make it onto the field. Anyway, Canada’s still here. Functioning. Intact. Not going anywhere. You’re still part of it, whether you like it or not. Welcome back. 🇨🇦

@ToewsWenda Well, all the 84% need to do then is vote no. Simple as that. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But democracy in Alberta demands the question gets asked.

Danielle Smith clearly does not represent the interests of the majority of Albertans. Smith is aware that only about 15–16% of Albertans are committed to independence regardless of the economic costs. Yet she insists on having a referendum question on separation. That’s 16% of Albertans wanting to force 84% of Albertans into a provincial separation that they don’t want. Yet Smith is strongly motivated to represent Separatists. With Danielle Smith’s consistent dishonesty, with the help that she received from David Parker to become the leader of the UCP, with her desire to not respect judicial decisions and with not expressing any negative vocalization about having party members that openly support separatist ideology, it is very difficult to believe that Smith would honestly share the results of a referendum. Nor is it believable that she would respect the results of this referendum. It’s time for Albertans to stand against Danielle Smith and against the UCP.

Strong fiscal management in uncertain times is helping to ensure Alberta’s credit rating remains strong 💪
Nate Horner@NateHornerAB

The @SPGlobalRatings affirmed Alberta’s AA- rating with a stable outlook, saying the province is managing its finances well despite challenging economic conditions.   The credit rating agency highlighted Alberta’s experienced fiscal management, strong cost control, prudent debt management, and detailed budgeting.   S&P says Alberta remains in a stronger financial position than most provinces, with lower debt and strong cash reserves including the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

🌹🛢️⛔️🌊 : Mark Carney admits there is no new pipeline project announcement tomorrow when he meets with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. Carney says Albert first has to meet numerous conditions, including expanding the carbon market. He then lists off several key conditions any pipeline approval will require. Carney has dumped huge amounts of red tape on pipelines, while promising to speed up every other project he wants, including data centers. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith either is being played for a fool, or she was aware of all of this, when she signed the MoU. Albertans are getting screwed so hard by this clown.

This referendum violates treaty rights, it would cost Albertans hundreds of millions of dollars, and is now tied to serious public safety concerns thanks to the largest data breach in Alberta’s history. Accept the court’s decision. Nobody is above the law – certainly not this Premier or this separatist government

This is getting ridiculous. Instead of addressing the claims by digging some holes and examining the evidence, a decision was made by someone to discredit the people who are asking for evidence. CBC, you dug a hole for yourself, and frankly, everyone involved should be fired.
Dallas Brodie@Dallas_Brodie

Forge Media also approached me about doing an interview. They said they were subcontracted by the CBC. We smelled a rat right away. So we asked some follow-up questions about what other documentaries they had done and when they failed to answer sufficiently we refused the interview. I worked at CBC Toronto in 1998-99 at The Fifth Estate and Marketplace and I knew from my experience that this was not the normal procedure for arranging interview subjects. And now we know that the CBC was in fact behind all of this! What is going on here @CBC? We want answers! This to me looks like you kidnapped Frances Widdowson - I think the police need to get involved here.
