SAS resignations should alarm the Government. When your best soldiers walk, you have failed in your duty of care. This is what lawfare against our soldiers looks like. Years of inquiries, no closure for victims, and our troops treated as suspects for life. You cannot build up our forces on a foundation of fear. No young recruit will sign up if the reward is a retirement spent in courtrooms. Our soldiers are held to the highest standards in combat. It is time the state held itself to the highest standards in justice. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/2…

Keir Starmer’s week involved: Being mocked for trying to take credit for the US-Iran ceasefire. Being forced to bin the Chagos deal. Another humiliating U-turn. I’ve now lost count of how many U-turns we’re on but it’s more than 12! What Starmer said in opposition. 👇🏼

The nut zealotry of Ed Miliband A new occasional series — No 3 Massive Silicon Valley company OpenAI has today paused its major Stargate UK data centre infrastructure project, citing high energy costs and the regulatory environment in the UK. UK industrial energy costs are the highest in the world (thanks, Ed). OpenAI and other AI giants are worried that Starmer’s desire (backed by Ed) to cosy up closer to the EU will mean AI in the UK coming under the Brussels’ regulatory regime, which is killing off AI projects in the EU.

The nut zealotry of Ed Miliband A new occasional series — No 2 At a time when global supply chains are vulnerable and we should be producing much more of our own food, E Miliband has today approved Springwell Solar Farm. It will cover seven square miles of prime Lincolnshire farmland. And the solar panels are likely to come from China (so much for green manufacturing jobs). Mili-Madness on stilts.

V telling that this is how government spokespeople respond to restaurateurs and business owners explaining in specific ways how they've been shafted by recent policies and fear going bust. All they can offer is asinine, triumphalist soundbites

The nut zero zealotry of Ed Miliband. A new occasional series. [feel free to add]. Fertiliser prices and shortages are soaring because the petrochemical industries of the Gulf states are major global suppliers but the Strait of Hormuz, through which they export, is closed. Not good for the spring planting season. Undaunted the UK will introduce a levy on imported carbon-intensive fertiliser as part of its costly obsession with cutting emissions, even when the impact is slight. At a time when we should be increasing food security government policy is to penalise farmers further.

“Restaurants are done.” “I have people calling me in tears every day… 40 years in business, now going under.” “Not the consumer… the government is totally killing the restaurant industry.” When experienced operators say this, the government must listen. The tax and cost burden is unsustainable.

🤦The 50p tax rate was supposed to raise £2.7bn a year. It raised £1bn. The Energy Profits Levy was forecast at £41.6bn. It raised £17.4bn. The non-dom abolition was meant to raise £34bn. It may raise nothing. 📉This is not bad luck. It is a pattern.

The very idea that this government is cutting red tape is a straight lie. Take the new Employment Rights Act - 200+ pages of new rules. This govt lie so much they have no idea of what the truth actually means.

VAT, business rates, NICs - that’s what our members survey told us was needed as we head into further cost pressures. The govt cannot tackle the cost of living crisis unless it gets a grip of cost of doing business which is fuelling price increases, job losses & investment freeze
UKHospitality@UKHofficial

“Six hospitality venues are closing every single day.” Thank you @JeromeMayhew for raising the scale of business closures in the sector this year. We need a hospitality-wide solution on business rates to prevent closures escalating further.

I'm self employed. I've just worked out that I have to charge my customers over £900 per week in order to take home the equivalent yearly wage of someone on the new national minimum wage. So I need to charge over £1,000 per week to be £100 better off than a minimum wage earner. I have 12 individual costs associated with running my one man band business. No holiday pay. No money if I'm off work due to illness or anything else. And this doesn't even take into consideration all the time spent on visiting new customers, pricing work, producing quotes etc, some of which is a complete waste of time when you don't get the work. All time that can't be charged for. This is why, for many self employed people, it's just not worth it any more. I've been self employed for 30 years and it's never been this bad.

ChatGPT made this graphic for me to illustrate the pump price of petrol... The fuel duty is higher than the crude oil component And then we pay VAT including on the fuel duty!! When @RachelReevesMP talks about fuel profiteering she needs to look in the mirror @griffitha @ClaireCoutinho
