It is difficult to imagine how anyone could do this to an elderly woman. Esther Martin was a pensioner with limited mobility, having had a hip replacement, suffering from arthritis and a limp. Ashley Warren had two fully grown XL bully dogs and a litter of 8 puppies. He is an aspiring rapper who wanted to go to London to film a video. He left the dogs with Esther, the mother of his girlfriend (who died suddenly in 2021). The puppies started fighting and she tried to stop the fight with a broom, as Warren had told her to do. One of the adult dogs attacked Esther, bit her “dozens and dozens of times” and killed her. A nearby neighbour had heard her screaming as she was attacked. The dogs were so ferocious that the police had to users tasers and shields to get through the door of the house. Warren is a piece of work, with nine previous convictions for 15 offences including robbery, assault and actual bodily harm and affray. Today Warren has been sentenced for 10 years and 3 months for owning a dog that caused a death and carrying a knife in a public place. He is the first person to be sentenced under the new XL bully laws.
